Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Roxie is a head turner. This 6-year-old Ridgeback mix loves nothing more than pleasing her people.
She’s a dog who loves with everything she’s got. She’s affectionate, playful, intelligent and driven. She loves a good game of fetch, de-stuffing her toys, learning new tricks, and chasing squirrels. She’s a sensitive soul who bonds quickly and deeply with her people.
In a perfect world, her full-time job would be doubling as your shadow. Her soulful eyes and sensitive nature seem to know when you’re having a hard day, and need an extra snuggle or someone snoozing on your foot.
Behind this beautiful face is a dog whose life hasn’t been easy.
She came to our rescue four years ago, through a local shelter. The shelter staff didn’t know her whole history, but they knew she had a very rough start. She was incredibly fearful of new humans, especially men, and new experiences. She was sensitive to the world around her, and would react to loud noises, cars, passing dogs. Everything was scary.
Four years ago, she was adopted by a family who lived on a beautiful farm property outside of the city. It was a dream come true for Roxie! She thrived, and grew into a confident dog who loves to patrol ‘her’ farm, chase squirrels, drive with her humans to town, and curl up by the warm fire at the end of a long day. Her loyalty to her humans has been unconditional and unwavering since she met them.
Unfortunately, Roxie’s owner’s circumstances are changing, and she is looking for a new home. With a dog who loves as hard as Roxie, we know this transition won’t be easy for her. We are looking for a special foster or adopter who can help her make this difficult transition as smooth as possible.
Roxie has a wishlist. We’re looking for a special family to welcome her, either as a foster on a temporary basis or as an adopter.
Roxie needs:
- A home in a quieter environment. Since she’s been living on a farm (and the city was always overwhelming for her), we are looking for a home with a yard where she can feel safe to explore and still get time outside. A quieter neighbourhood in a suburban or rural environment would be ideal!
- Someone active. Roxie’s the perfect blend of ready for adventure, and able to chill at home, but she needs someone committed to making sure she gets her exercise each day
- To be the only pet (for now). While Roxie has lived with other dogs of all sizes, she needs slow introductions. Given the stress of moving to a new home, we think it would be easiest on her to be the only dog in your life. She does have prey drive, so no cat friends please.
- While Roxie loves being around her people, she does really well home alone. She’ll quietly wait by the door for you to come home to her.
- Her foster family must make sure she has a solid collection of toys to play with (Roxie wanted us to make sure we added this one!). And she’d like you to know that although she loves playing with toys, she would never dream of messing with her humans’ stuff (she knows shoes are off limits and is very respectful!).
- Roxie displays leash reactivity to certain dogs and cars on walks. TEAM will provide Roxie’s foster family with a training session upon arrival, to help make the transition as easy as possible on everyone, but a family who is comfortable working on leash reactivity is important. We know she’s got a ton of potential to work on this -- one of our trainers met Roxie recently and shared that “With the proper formula of exercise and training efforts, I feel that Roxie can overcome most, if not all, of anything. She is very driven and easy to please her handler companion.”
- And finally, someone who understands that starting over will be hard for a sensitive dog, but who knows that a little bit of patience will help her blossom into a confident pup again in no time. And she’ll be forever grateful to you for it.
Please reach out if you're interested in learning more about Roxie!
