My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Clark is another sweet beagle who has been here awhile and we would love to see him find a home to make room for the new beagles arriving soon.

Clark arrived at Home Fur Hounds after being hit by a car in New Kent County. So of course we named him Clark Kent. He stayed here for about 6 weeks while recovering from his leg injury. He was only about 5 months old at the time and healed quickly.

Clark did get adopted, but the new family had some issues with him resource guarding and didn't feel it was safe to have their grandchildren around him so they returned him to us.

Clark is now about 1 year old. He can be very sweet and friendly, but he does have some issues he needs to work on. He does get jealous if the foster family is paying attention to another dog and will growl sometimes at the dog. If the foster parents attempt to move him away from the other dog Clark does get upset. He almost acts like a toddler having a little tantrum. The foster parents put him in the crate for a time out and he does go in willingly. Adults can work with him on these issues, but we don't want him to go to a home with kids since they may not understand not to approach him at certain times.

He really did like having another beagle in the house when he had a foster brother and they ran and played in the yard. His foster brother was very submissive so he didn't have any issues with Clark. So Clark would probably do OK with another dog if the dog was submissive and didn't try to be the dominant dog.

Clark will need training on these issues and just basic puppy training such as leash walking without jumping up and wanting to run see everyone. We did actually start him in a training class and he is doing well. Because we want to make sure Clark gets the training he needs his adoption fee will include a 6 week training class from Perfect Paws Pet Training, which was generously donated by them.

Clark is a small beagle mix at about 21 pounds. He is neutered, vaccinated. micro-chipped and HW negative. We hope the right family will come along who is willing to work with this young guy since he can be so sweet and friendly.

If interested in Clark our application can be found at www.homesfurhounds.com. He is located in Williamsburg, Va.
