My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sweet Sammy is an adorable 5.5 year old Yorkie. He is 13 pounds. Sammy is being fostered in Clearwater, FL.

UPDATED BIO 4/6/22: Sammy is a wonderful little dog who spent his entire life on the third floor, with no backyard, until his mom had to go to a nursing home. Fortunately United Yorkie Rescue was able to take him in.

Sweet Sammy was very confused and nervous when he arrived. He is very affectionate and will stare in your eyes and give you kisses. Sammy is used to having someone with him all the time. For this reason, he needs to be with someone who works from home or is retired.

Sammy gets along with the resident 2 dogs, another Yorkie and terrier mix. He goes out in the yard and is comfortable with them in the house. He does not like larger dogs.

When he arrived it was obvious he didn’t really know what to do with a leash. Today, he is absolutely loving his walks and gets very excited when his harness is fetched. He walks very well and gets excited if he sees a squirrel or other dogs.

Sammy came with a crate, and his foster mommy continues to crate him at night, or if she leaves the house for a longer period. He will go into his crate with a promised treat and sleeps the entire night in his foster mommy’s bedroom.

Unfortunately, Sammy was not fully housebroken when he came to stay with his foster mommy. He is doing well, however, this will require time and additional training. His foster mom feels it is best that he has a fully fenced backyard.

Sammy loves to play with his toys and looks for you to play with him. He can get a little obsessive with his toys, wants you to play tug of war, and has no intention of relinquishing them! He will make a very good watchdog, as he likes to bark when he hears something or if anyone comes to the door. He should be in a home with no small children under 10 years of age.

This little guy is very sweet and adorable. Sammy will be a great companion, a lot of fun, and provide much love to a lucky household.

Here's what my updated ideal home would be:

- To live in a home where my parent(s) work from home or are retired.
- No large dogs, please!
- Fully fenced backyard.
- No small children under 10 years of age, please!
