My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing McGee!
15lbs of utter sweetness

Mcgee is approx 6-8yrs young, he joined our rescue as an unclaimed stray from a rural pound, so it was difficult to assess his true age as an adult dog.

As a unclaimed stray, his breed mix is also unknown, but we see Pug/Beagle/Chihuahua mixes in many ways, with perhaps a bit of Jack Russell terrier sprinkled in.

He has the sweetest nature and loves other dogs. He was fine with cats in his initial temp foster home but may chase them if he is the only dog in the home without a playmate.

McGee loves all people but young children are not appropriate in his new home.

He is showing his playful side, almost puppy like in ways, and is so far great with other dogs and cats as well as all humans he has met.

McGee loves his walks on warmer days or bundled on cooler days, and he also likes to run and chase squirrels in his foster's fenced yard.
He likes to play with his treat puzzles indoors or relax with a bullystick on his bed while his foster mom works.

He is food motivated and responsive to learning new skills as a very intelligent boy eager to please.

McGee readily goes in his crate if encouraged with treats, "once in his crate he will bark until you leave and when you come home until he is let out. As far as I can tell, he will sleep in the crate while you are gone"
He has not shown any destructive tendencies in his foster home.

McGee travels well in a crate in the backseat, he is quiet most of the time but sometimes barks when he sees people outside of the car or if you go out of his sight.

McGee will do best in a home where he is not left alone too often. He would also enjoy having more than one person to interact with as he is a curious dog and likes being with people and doing what they do. He does, however, also enjoy just relaxing and cuddling with his people.

Like all new dogs, McGee would also benefit with training classes to thrive with his new family.

Only applicants who meet each dog's criteria for their ideal forever home will be contacted. You MUST submit an adoption application prior to being considered , see instructions at the bottom of this profile.

Notes:
*Flight risk-fenced yard required-McGee can be vocal so is not an ideal match for apartments/attached homes.
*Pools and ponds must be separately fenced from yard
*Owned or rented homes welcome with landlord's permission

Hobo Haven is located in St Jacobs Ontario.
For approved families, we require in person meetings in St Jacobs ON after your application has been approved.
If you are not willing to drive to this location to meet our dogs if you are approved, please do not apply. We do not meet elsewhere nor deliver dogs.

If you are interested in applying to adopt a dog from Hobo Haven Rescue, please use this link to submit an application https://hobohavenrescue.ca/dog-adoption-application

McGee's adoption fee is a minimum donation of $500
His vet expenses have exceeded $3,000 including bloodwork, cherry eye repair surgery, dental surgery, bloodwork, vaccinations, microchip, deworming etc

Adoption fees include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate vaccinations, fecal testing, dentals if required, deworming if needed, Heartworm and Tick disease testing, bloodwork, Advantage prevention, and all medical treatments and surgeries required during their time with us.

For anyone possibly interested in adopting from Hobo Haven, here are a few, but not all, criteria to be aware of:

We require all serious applicants to watched "Petfooled" which is a free documentary at this link https://tubitv.com/movies/494913/pet-fooled
Our motto is "know better/do better" and we ask all adoptive families to be as committed to providing our dogs with quality nutrition as they are to providing love. This documentary is not advertising, purely just educational.

An adoption application must be completed and approved, as well as a virtual home visit (Zoom during COVID), prior to meeting available dogs. All dogs are placed in loving foster homes during their time with us, we do not have a shelter to visit.

We do not allow applicants to visit until pre-approved for adoptions. All dogs are in private foster family homes, not a facility.

Any questions may be emailed to hobohavenpetrescue@gmail.com

Please do not ask us to make exceptions, we set these protocols and policies for the dog's best interests which are always our highest priority.

Emails are best, our volunteers work full time and are often not able to answer or return phone calls in a timely manner.
