My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

ATDR 3077

Say hello to Bonnie! This cute little Chiweenie girl somehow found herself in a Central Texas shelter, but when ATDR was contacted, we immediately rushed to her rescue! She’s now safely tucked away in a comfortable foster home where it is reported that she is super friendly and has a smile on her face all the time! When she smiles, she shows her teeth and is absolutely adorable!

Her foster mom reports that she loves other dogs and cats but she doesn't trust strangers. If you have people in and out of your house, she would probably need to be crated or secured in a different room because she's extremely protective! Once she becomes comfortable with her person, she is super sweet to that person, but remains very afraid of strangers to her because of previous abuse she's suffered before coming into rescue. She acts like a young dog and is very athletic. She is a quiet pup unless she sees something new and then she will bark so apartment or condo living will not work for her or you. She is a lovely pet, but will need to be in the right home...children and/or multiple people coming and going would not be the right match for Bonnie.

Bonnie adores snuggling with or without other pets in her foster mom’s lap and would stay there for hours if she could! If she goes to a forever home with another dog who is calm and playful sometimes (not a younger playful one), she would play with them.

Bonnie uses pee pads consistently but her foster mom believes she would be easy to housebreak because she is very smart and loves to please.

This girl is a Houdini who easily climbs and jumps fences, so a forever home must have a 6-foot smooth on the inside fence (not chain link) because she will climb if given the opportunity.

She becomes terrified if you raise your voice and will dive over, through and under anything when she is scared. She has suffered some fairly significant abuse in her past so is very upset if you are upset. A gentle voice and praise works best with her. She is hyper alert and has a tendency to be a barker, so apartment or condo living is not advised. She may calm down and bark less as she feels more secure.

In summary, Bonnie must go to a home with very few visitors because she is extremely protective. She definitely would not do well in a home with children of any age or teenagers due to her tendency to become frightened at sudden movements and loud noises...she would bolt and could become feral in a minute! A quiet home where someone who works from home or is retired loves having a warm little pup in their lap would be perfect for her. She wants to be with her person if at all possible, but she is not super clingy.

If you’re an adult home looking for a little friend and companion to love and share quiet time with, please submit an adoption application for Bonnie Stein! She’ll warm your heart and lap in no time!

More about this rescue

All Texas Dachshund Rescue, Inc., is made up of a group of volunteers whose primary goal is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home disabled and otherwise endangered Dachshunds who have found themselves homeless for one reason or another. It is our policy that no dogs will be adopted out without first being spayed or neutered, have had all vaccines updated, are heartworm negative, are on heartworm preventative, and have had all other health issues we consider important to the pet’s life addressed that we are able.

All incoming Dachshunds will be placed in temporary foster homes, where they will be evaluated while living indoors with the foster families in a safe and nurturing home environment, until such time as they are ready to be placed in a loving, adoptive, forever home.

A 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
