Here's what the humans have to say about me:
My name is Abigail, my Foster Mom calls me Abby for short. I think I am about 2.5 years old, I don't remember my birthday too well. I am not a very big, my vet said I weigh 45lbs. Now that is out of the way, would you like to hear my story? Well, here goes! I started life has an abandoned puppy that found my way to the shelter, thankfully, a rescue group came and saved me. Unfortunately, that rescue group did not really watch out for me. They did not screen the people who took me home or even visit the home that I was going to live in! Thankfully the rescue did spay me, so that saved me from life as a breeding factory that could bring more unwanted dogs into the world. I lived outside at my new home, they fed me bad food, did not put anything on me to stop the fleas from biting me, and even worse they did not care enough about me to give me my heartworm prevention. Because of them I got heartworms and found myself back in the shelter system. Please don't think I am a bad girl because I was in the shelter twice, the first time I was just a baby and the second time was because my owners did not want to help me get rid of those nasty heartworms. Then, I got lucky! The director of the shelter thought I was special and felt bad for me. You see, even though I was in the shelter I just knew that was not my fate and I would get lucky, thanks to him I did! He said he never walked in the shelter without seeing my tail wagging and looking at him with my smiling face. He talked to every rescue group and finally one volunteer came in and saw the same thing in me the Director did. The volunteer grabbed me from the shelter and took me home with her! Lucky me! I was so happy! As I pranced out of the shelter I looked at the kind Director who told me to have a wonderful life and find a new home. My story doesn't end here though. My next stop was at my new vet's office, where I had to get my vaccines and start my heartworm treatment. The heartworm treatment was not fun, in fact I didn't do well at all while going through it. We cattle dogs have a hard time with heartworm treatments and I was no exception. I suffered mild neurological damage that causes my head to tilt a little. It has improved a lot and I have been under evaluation and vet care for the last 8 months to make sure I would be okay. My luck never runs out though! My Doctor said that my problem could even go away completely and he has seen it happen, I was so happy to hear that! I know my rescuer call me special needs but really all I need is someone to look past my head tilt and give me a loving home. All I want is to be loved! But my new home must remember that I have to have my heartworm prevention every month and promise to love me for the rest of my life. Would you like to be my special someone? My adoption fee is only $50 because I need a special person, but you know I am also a special girl. Please help Abby find a home soon, our fences are badly damaged from Hurricane Rita and we are having a hard time containing are larger dogs. We reduced Abby's fee from $75 to $50! If you can't adopt, please consider being a foster parent.
