Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Oakley, a beautiful and friendly adult male purebred Dalmatian! Oakley was sprung after being surrendered to a TN county shelter that was at full capacity. The previous owner noted "changes in the family" were the reason for the surrender. Although we don't know much about his past situation, we're looking forward to everything Oakley now has in store for his future.
Oakley is a crate trained, soft coated sweetheart who loves belly scratches, giving kisses and cuddles! He gets along very well with other dogs, both male and female! He is still learning some of his household manners and polishing off his obedience training, which seems to be easy as long as you have treats! We are currently working on sharing toys, counter surfing and jumping. His temperament with children is unknown at this time. Oakley is a playful, very loyal velcro dog; you will never have to worry about going to the bathroom alone again. He travels well in the car and would make a great hiking partner for an active family. It is important to note that Oakley is cat reactive and will need to be placed in a home without them.
Oakley is a purebred Dalmatian - meaning, he has a very high energy level. Dalmatians are known for needing to be exercised and mentally stimulated daily! A bored Dalmatian will be a destructive and unruly Dalmatian. This breed will shed twice a year, January through June and July through December (did you catch that?). Dalmatians are big time shedders! We're talking those small hairs that weave in between fabric and never come out. If you prefer a fur free home, this breed is not for you.
Dalmatians are also known for being HUA (High Uric Acid) unless specifically bred with LUA (Low Uric Acid) genes. This means that they cannot process purines and will need specialized diets. There is plenty of information online for low purine food options as this condition is similar to a human who has gout disease. Low purine options include turkey, chicken and salmon based foods. Beef, venison and other red meat options are off the menu.
Although we do not know if Oakley is HUA or LUA (you can find out through an Embark Genetic Health Test), we like to err on the side of caution and be preventative so we treat him as a HUA Dalmatian for now.
**Oakley does not have a history of forming stones**

The Maddux Movement is a non-profit foster based rescue located in Atlanta, GA. Our mission is to rescue and rehome animals that are in abusive, neglectful or endangering situations, which includes traditional or open admission shelters, strays, owner surrenders and puppy mills. Adoptions are not based on a first come first serve basis. The individual(s) selected will be chosen by what is best for each animal. Although our rescue is breed focused, we are not a breed restrictive rescue.
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (including leptospirosis and canine influenza).
Additionally, each adopted dog will be sent home with a new Fi Series 2 GPS Tracker Smart Dog Collar (without subscription), a copy of The Forever Dog by Rodney Habib and Dr. Karen Becker and a Dalmatian dog blanket.
