Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Ares, a beautiful and VERY friendly 3 year old, male purebred liver (brown and white) Dalmatian! Ares was lovingly surrendered by his previous owners in hopes for providing him with a better home environment and future.
Ares loves humans of all sizes and gets along very well with cats! He is an extremely friendly and very loyal velcro dog who has a very soft coat and loves to snuggle. He travels in the car like a champ and would make a great hiking partner. His foster mom says he loves belly scratches and giving kisses! Ares seems unbothered by other dogs at a distance however, he is timid when another dog invades his personal space for sniffs. To clarify, Ares has never reacted aggressively to another dog but he does tend to jump away and hide when they get too close. It is important to note that Ares has made progress over the last week with a very slow introduction and can in fact be with another dog over time, but we still think he would do best in either an only dog home or with someone who has training experience.
Ares is a purebred Dalmatian - meaning, he has a high energy level. Dalmatians are known for needing to be exercised and mentally stimulated daily! A bored Dalmatian will be a destructive and unruly Dalmatian. This breed will shed twice a year, January through June and July through December (did you catch that?). Dalmatians are big time shedders! We're talking those small hairs that weave in between fabric and never come out. If you prefer a fur free home, this breed is not for you.
Ares has shown signs of minor seasonal allergies (small bumps during Spring) that are being remedied with a simple dose of 1 daily Claritin. This will only need to be maintained until the end of pollen season but will need to be treated annually.
Dalmatians are also known for being HUA (High Uric Acid) unless specifically bred with LUA (Low Uric Acid) genes. This means that they cannot process purines and will need specialized diets. There is plenty of information online for low purine food options as this condition is similar to a human who has gout disease. Low purine options include turkey, chicken and salmon based foods. Beef, venison and other red meat options are off the menu.
Although we do not know if Ares is HUA or LUA (you can find out through an Embark Genetic Health Test), we like to err on the side of caution and be preventative so we treat him as a HUA Dalmatian for now.
**Ares does not have a history of forming stones**

The Maddux Movement is a non-profit foster based rescue located in Atlanta, GA. Our mission is to rescue and rehome animals that are in abusive, neglectful or endangering situations, which includes traditional or open admission shelters, strays, owner surrenders and puppy mills. Adoptions are not based on a first come first serve basis. The individual(s) selected will be chosen by what is best for each animal. Although our rescue is breed focused, we are not a breed restrictive rescue.
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (including leptospirosis and canine influenza).
Additionally, each adopted dog will be sent home with a new Fi Series 2 GPS Tracker Smart Dog Collar (without subscription), a copy of The Forever Dog by Rodney Habib and Dr. Karen Becker and a Dalmatian dog blanket.
