Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Casper was rescued from a dog meat farm closure in Jeju island, South Korea in 2018 summer, just before Boknal. There were about 100 dogs living in filthy constricting cages barely above a pool of their own feces. After 14 days, the illegal dog meat farm was closed, but 14 days were too short to find homes for all the dogs. The volunteers managed to build a temporary outdoor shelter and move two dozen dogs. Casper was one of them. He was lucky enough to find a foster home and spent 2 years at there - it was not a home but a doggy daycare.
Since last November, this writer has been fostering Casper. He is such an affectionate dog who loves to cuddle with his humans but he calmly waits while I'm busy with working. He doesn't bark at all - I heard his voice only a few times when he was left behind as I was walking out another dog alone.
When he was being fostered in the doggy care, he didn't get a chance to go for a walk. So at first, he was not used to walk on a leash and he was panicked when a placard fluttered in the wind. But after 4 months of regular walks, he became a good leash walker. Sometimes he is stubborn and he wants to go somewhere he wants to go and pull the leash and he stops very often to sniff things, but the progress has been amazing.
When a stranger approaches him, he would be a bit shy at first. He is more comfortable around women than men. When a woman gives enough time and space, he will open up soon. He will be okay with children, but he doesn't seem to like the noises that healthy and happy children make. Once he gets to know someone, he allows everything like petting, hugging, lifting, belly-rubs - he enjoys! Jindo dogs are usually reluctant to be lifted, but Casper is very used to it and very calm.
Casper gets along well with other dogs. When he finds a good play mate, he loves to wrestle with. When he or the other dog is not interested in play, he is indifferent. However, Casper doesn't like a dog park yet. I tried to take him to a dog park where there were many different dogs running. He refused to move forward. It seems like Casper prefers to play with one or a few dogs, not dozens of dogs.
During a walk, Casper often sees stray cats in my neighborhood. He shows some interests, but not that much stubborn. When I say you should go, he follows.
Casper loves to play with his toys and chew them. When he has a toy and other dog approaches, he can make a little growl, but that's it. No aggression related to resource guarding. When I had two dogs including Casper, I used to feed them at the same time. Casper only ate his meal.
Casper doesn't have hyper energy. He is very calm at home. He likes car riding and no carsickness. He gets in/jumps out of a car by himself. What a smart boy!
Is there anyone who wants to be a very affectionate, gentle and mature, sometimes playful Casper's mom or dad?
