Here's what the humans have to say about me:
URGENT - Emma needs to find a new foster home or forever home right away, she will be losing her foster home as the family is moving and cannot take her along
If you would like to consider this litle angel for a foster, foster to adopt or permanent home please don't wait, call right away 720-988-7749.
Emma is another unfortunate Denver exile. She had finally found a loving home after being a neighborhood dog passed around to several different homes, used as a breed dog by one and tossed out after all of the puppies were sold.
A very caring and wonderful lady finally took her in and decided she wasn't going through this anymore just to have Denver reinstate it's ban on pit bulls :(
Poor sweet little Emma. For some sad reason this girl just can't seem to catch a break in this life. We are hoping that maybe that's because somewhere out there is her perfect forever home and Emma is waiting patiently for them to find her.
After everything this girl had been through we have to hope that someone will finally open their hearts to her and decide that they are going to give her a permanant home where she will never have to be scared or left alone again.
Emma has had a sad start, but she's a young girl, most likely between 1-3 years of age. It's difficult to tell in her case as she's so mellow and easy going and so incredibly sweet! She is a fairly small girl, only around 45 pounds.
Though it must have been so hard for her, she's gotten a lot from her experience. Almost by default, her days of wandering the streets, meeting lot of new people, and plenty of other dogs, cats... has actually turned her into an extremely well socialized little girl.
Emma is very gentle and calm for such a young dog. She seems to be very wise. She must have learned a lot about life very quickly with all she's already experienced. And she's got soulful sweet way about her that makes it easy for her to connect and bond deeply with her people.
Because of the pit bull in her she can only be placed in a home with a friendly male. She lives now with her foster brother and does excellent. He can even take toys and bones right out of her mouth and she's just fine with it.
Here's what Emma's foster mom has to say about her:
"Emma is one of those lovebucket, wigglebutt Pit Bulls. She is happiest when she is licking someone's face, and getting love. She has done remarkably well with other dogs, and even being quite a bit smaller, wrestles whole heartedly with her canine foster brother for as long as we let them.
Emma needs a patient partner who can take time to train her. She has not been trained by previous owners to sit or lay down or to stay off furniture. These are the "big three" her foster family is working on with her now. She responds well to food and praise during training.
Emma has done very well with new places and new people. She is confidant when meeting new people or new situations and usually she is the one to initiate contact. Just warn them that they WILL be licked if they get down to eye level with her! She has done well with the other animals we have introduced her to, which include horses, cows, dogs, and a mule. But her previous home said she was afraid of cats.
Emma is a naturally gentle dog, and does not like to rough house with her people. We think she would do well with someone who would like a gentle but not timid dog, and expect Emma could someday (after some obedience classes!) make a good therapy dog prospect."
Emma needs to find a forever home soon. She's got a couple of month before her foster family moves.
