My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This here FABULOUS feline is Everett - seriously, fabulous. But he has a tale to tell and it's a sad one. However, we are hopeful that we can change his story to one with a happy ending. Let's see if we can change this boy's future in the quick, shall we...

Everett was born here at our facility to a mom that we rescued from a local farm - we helped 20+ cats from that farm and every one of them has been grateful that we did, Everett included. And Everett was adopted and we had such high hopes for him being loved on forever - to our dismay, that did not happen. In fact, Everett was abandoned - outside, and very far from the place he thought was his home. He was out on his own in the cold, scrounging for food, and very, very scared. Thankfully, a very kind person saw Everett near a dumpster, scooped him up, and took him to their local human society where he was scanned for a microchip, which eventually led him back to us. Our sweet, charming Evie was in bad shape, but he was safe. It took several months for our boy to regain the weight he lost, vet check-ups were done to ensure his progress, and a dental was performed to extract his broken teeth (which likely occurred from trying to eat anything and everything he could find). But today, we are happy to report that Evie is happy, healthy, and ready to find a new home - and this time, we pray he lands with someone who will value his worth and love him forever and ever!

So, let's talk about our boy and just how fabulous he is. Everett is the sweetest cat with tons of personality and charm. He loves to flop down at your feet, will play with your fingers and hair, will weave between your legs, and will rub on your cheeks. And yeah, that might not be for everyone, but if you're the hands-on kind of pet owner that likes a lot of interaction with your pets, Everett's your guy. He likes toys, will chase lasers, bats at feathers and wrestles with his kitty friends. He's a social fella but not overly vocal. He's great with kids of all ages and doesn't seem too bothered by well-behaved dogs.

Everett does have one physical characteristic that needs to be mentioned so it's not a surprise when you meet him (and we know you want to!) - he has a bit of a wobble in back end when walking/running. He has a swagger - and it's cute. We're not really sure what caused this and our vets have no concerns over it. As a small kitten this swagger was not seen - it appeared quickly as he approached the age of neutering and has remained the same since. There are no physical or mechanical reasons for it - skeletally and muscularly, everything seems in check. It does not affect him in any way significantly - he uses the litterbox without issues, plays normally, runs, jumps and climbs as any other cat would (although climbing isn't done as quickly as he has to carry that wobbly back end up with him). Really, it's a non-issue but it would catch you off guard had we not mentioned it. He also has one characteristic that is likely due to the trauma he experienced when he was abandoned - he is afraid of storms, and he will run and hide when there is an active storm in progress. He allows comforting during these times, which is good - but how awful that he has been through something so traumatic to cause this fear. In time we believe he will overcome this but he'll need some extra loving until he gets there. So, you see, Everett is just like we said - FABULOUS! He's one special fella and we are so proud of him - he's a survivor and a fighter. What's not to love!

If you've read this far, you owe it to yourself to come in and meet him. We know you won't be disappointed. Please give our sweet boy a chance to love you.

Everett's DOB is 4/11/2021.

More about this rescue

Established in 2003, we are a no-kill rescue/re-home program that takes in abandoned, homeless and unwanted animals. We work tirelessly to find new, permanent homes for our rescues. Our program's Director began this journey when our county's humane society was closed down.

A note from our Director:

"I have been a lifelong rescuer; all of my pets (currently, 10 dogs and 5 cats) are rescue animals. They mean the world to me and I want to help as many animals as I can while I am on this earth. Back in 2003, I gathered together many animal lovers in the area and we started our rescue efforts; we've continued to grow over time and are now operating as a 501c3 organization, which has helped us strengthen our efforts to save the animals. We want to see that no animal goes without love, shelter, food or a happy life. We work on educating the public about the overpopulation problem, we promote spay/neuter programs, and we do group tours at our facility to teach about the rescue re-home world. To get our youth community involved, we visit schools to teach about responsible pet ownership, animal abuse and neglect, and what they as an animal advocate can do to help prevent these tragedies. We are proud of what we do here at our rescue and we believe it is our job to protect those that speak another language and quite honestly, we just could not imagine a world without them. I invite you to join our efforts by becoming a sustainable monthly donor, a volunteer with our program or, simply to be another voice for the animals. Contact us today to find out how you can help."
