Vetting and other: altered (spayed/neutered), bladder stone surgery, enucleation (removal of right eye due to glaucoma), up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations, heartworm negative, fecal positive for hookworms (treated and cleared), groomed multiple times since with us, on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention, microchipped
Health issues:
Right eye enucleation (removal) due to glaucoma; there is a potential for left eye to develop glaucoma, however currently, pressure is normal;
Huge bladder stones removed; on veterinary prescribed Hill’s Science Diet Urinary SO canned food (along with dry) – she gets a mixed portion in the morning and a mixed portion in the late afternoon – she eats it well. Keeping her on this food reduces the risk of reformation of bladder stones. Also, due to untreated bladder stones and reinfection of bladder, Tippy Toes’ bladder is very thick and cannot hold much urine; therefore she does urinate tiny amounts frequently. Recommend urine testing annually to insure no bladder infections since her bladder is now so small. Discuss with your vet.
Temperament: AMAZING, SWEET… ADORABLE… AND DID WE SAY “AMAZING” ? Can be a little shy but she has been through so much!
Energy level: low… chill; BUT watch her video… this girl has some SPUNK!
Groom needs: High; requires regular professional grooming, along with intermittent brushing to avoid matting
Biography: Tippy Toes was one of six dogs who came to us from a breeder situation that is closing due to the health and age of the operator (she has since passed away). There were over 20 dogs on the property and we worked with two other rescue groups to help the animals. All dogs on the property were removed. Tippy Toes was the last dog to be located hiding in a white igloo and difficult to see. She probably would not have been found if the owner’s son hadn’t wondered where she was and we started looking. This girl has been through A LOT! Huge bladder stones removed (we saved them to show her adopter); glaucoma in her right eye causing eye removal; removed from the only home/property she’s ever known and being around people she doesn’t know. She’s been with us for over five months now and we’ve all fallen in love with her. How could you not? We realize her medical needs may be an issue with some but her personality is so hard to ignore. Tippy Toes is very chill and sweet. If she’s not sleeping, you’ll find her just roaming around sniffing and exploring… with an occasional burst of energy! As far as barking… I don’t think we’ve ever heard a peep out of her! She’s just quiet and if you didn’t know she was there, you wouldn’t know she was there. She needs to stay on her urinary food. Don’t give in and give her table scraps or some other kind of food. You can check on-line for the cost of this food. You can only get it through your veterinarian or via a prescription from your veterinarian. It cannot be purchased without a prescription. Keep in mind, also, that her left eye may develop glaucoma so if you notice her tilting her head back or acting as if she doesn’t feel well (which his how we ended up finding out about the right eye)… then take her to the vet. She needs an adopter with the MEANS (meaning, the money) to take care of her. If you can’t afford the food or the vet trips… don’t apply for her. She needs a calm, quiet, adult-only home. Since she tinkles a lot, you may have to set up an area for her with potty pads so that she can urinate freely. She does potty when we take her outside during the day, but keep in mind with her thick bladder, she can’t hold it for long. Five months is too long for any dog to be in a rescue. We just want her to have a home of her own. She’s been a breeder dog her entire life… living outdoors. It’s time she have a home of her own.
**IMPORTANT NOTES**
*We do adopt out of state provided the adopter is willing and able to travel to us once approved. We do not ship or transport our animals and there is no exception to this rule.
*All of our adoptable dogs are small, and they are never to be left outside alone, ever! We only rehome our dogs to adopters that plan to have them as inside dogs and part of the family! We do allow adopters with doggie doors, provided there is SECURE fencing. There is no exception to this rule!
*NO SMALL CHILDREN!! As with almost all the dogs at NR2R, young children or a very active household is not recommended. Many of our dogs come to us BECAUSE of small children, thus we do not rehome our dogs to homes with babies or young children. KEEP THIS IN MIND IF YOU HAVE VISITING GRANDCHILDREN AS WELL! Even if the children are older, it would depend on the child AND the parent or parents.
*HOUSETRAINING: We do NOT guarantee that any of our adoptable dogs are housetrained. While most should be easily trained, keep in mind that they live in a rescue where they have access to the outdoors all day and are inside at night. Even if they were surrendered to us as housetrained, it doesn’t mean they will automatically be housetrained in your home. Housetraining them should be easy in the right home with time, patience, and consistency.
*We do not guarantee the age, health or temperament of any of the dogs we rehome. Many of the dogs we take in come from animal control and rarely do we have histories and even when we do, many times the histories are inaccurate.
*Only adopters with a responsible dog ownership history and excellent vet reference need apply. If you bring this pet into your heart and home, you will receive in return many years of love, companionship, and loyalty. That’s our guarantee.
