Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Raya will not be at PetSmart because she is very timid, but if you are looking for a cat to bring to the human side of life, it's her.
Raya was born on the streets near 56th and Michigan Road. She was first spotted as a kitten running with her short-haired sister. Her sister was caught and spayed, but Raya was not. Unfortunately, Raya's sister was hit by a car and killed a few months later. The following Spring, we received a call about a calico cat and her kitten. We realized it was Raya.
We trapped Raya in June of 2021 and removed her permanently from the property per the homeowner's request. We were able to capture her kitten within a week. We named the kitten Kayda, bonded her to another kitten named Kohana, and they have been adopted to a wonderful gentleman.
Raya has been very slow to acclimate to humans. We have gotten her to the point where she will let us pet her head, while she hides in the litter box (as seen in the picture). She does not growl or hiss, she just hides. We will keep working to socialize her, but she may have more success with someone who has more time to give her. If you have experience with socializing timid feral cats and you want a long-haired calico in your life, please let us know.
Raya doesn't seem to mind other cats, but we strongly recommend a home with no dogs as she was chased by dogs while living on the street.
Raya is spayed, vaccinated, negative for FIV/FeLV and microchipped. Raya is approximately 3 years old now so she has a long life ahead of her.
