Lucy’s freedom day was December 21, 2009. She had spent her whole life in a commercial kennel prior to her coming into rescue with Hound Haven This is her story so far... Hi, I’m Lucy Houndhaven! My foster family says that every doggy needs to have a last name so they have given me my first name tag and collar so I have an identity. You know when a doggy enters the doggy protection program (rescue) they should have a new name, so this is me for now but you could always rename me when I come live with you!
I want to talk about all the things that I have learned since I no longer need to be a Mommy. I’ve learned that being in a large space like the yard with other dogs is really fun! Sometimes so much fun I don’t want to come back inside. I love the freedom to sniff and explore all the areas in the back yard. I enjoy watching the other dogs as they play and have caught myself wagging my tail and running with them in the yard....it is so much fun! I plan to do lots of this in my future too.
I love having plenty of food and water at all times and the treats...Wow, whoever invented those things were really thinking, they are great! Honestly I wasn’t sure what my foster parents were trying to give me at first but I was so curious because the other dogs just kept trying to take them right out of their hands, I finally decided to try them and they are great! I’m getting even more curious each day and even scored pizza the other day from my foster mom, she was pretty happy because I took it from her hand. She said we have found Lucy’s high value food, she likes pizza now! No worries, my foster parents continue to make sure I get my good food first before these fun treats. My mommy belly is coming back up and I’m looking good according to my foster parents, weighing about 50 lbs. Something else I really enjoy so much is the kisses and scratches I get each day. I can tell how much my foster parents love me and all the other dogs they have. I’ve learned how to get on the sofa by myself, and even up in bed by using the ottoman by the bed. The first few days I slept on a doggy bed but kept thinking boy that bed looks comfy that the other dogs keep getting into. Now, sometimes I beat everyone to the bed at night! I sleep all night long on the bed and once in a while when one of the other dogs wakes up for a drink of water I get a drink too from the bowl foster mom brings over to us lazy babies as she calls us, still resting in bed, it’s pretty nice to get service like this! My foster parents are also so impressed that I’m potty trained already too! I have to admit, I’m pretty smart so that was the easiest thing to learn.
Well that is my story so far, each day I become more confident in being the dog that my foster family sees that I can be, full of confidence and the sweet loving soul I am. They will keep me safe and loved until you are ready to have me move in because I dream of having my very own forever home!
