Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hi all, my name is Charlie, I am a beautiful and sweet-natured 7 year old male German Shorthaired Pointer weighing 46 pounds (21 kg) and standing 23 inches tall. I spent much of my earlier years in Korea, tied up on a very short chain. I could barely move and was also fed sporadically. Thankfully I was rescued by some wonderful people when they found out I was about to be sent to a dog butcher.
Despite my tough start to life, I am a very loving and affectionate dog. When meeting people, I am extremely friendly to everyone. I allow touch from strangers with no hesitation at all. In fact I crave it. Years of not being touched will do that to you. With other dogs, I am very friendly and have my tail wagging all the time. I patiently wait for them to sniff me. When I recently met a cranky little dog, I was interested at first, but then backed off as soon as she rejected me.
However, my years of being hungry most of the time and deprived of everything except a water bowl has left me with severe resource guarding. While I can be hand fed, once a bowl of food is set in front of me, I will bite if someone tries to take it away or comes too close. I may also guard a toy I am playing with. For these reasons, I cannot live with young children. I currently live with a female dog and a cat and get along fine with both of them. I don't do as well living with another male dog though.
I have a moderate amount of energy and love getting attention from people and spending time with other dogs on walks and at dog parks, especially females. Exploring new territory is also a lot of fun for me, not doubt from having spent years standing in one spot. Being such a smart boy, I already know how to sit for my food and can catch treats in the air. I have a good appetite, but know to wait for my food. Despite my love of human attention, I do not have separation anxiety, rarely bark, am comfortable in a kennel and do not get car sick. My teeth were professionally cleaned Nov 4th, 2021 and were found to be in good shape, just like the rest of me.
So what do you say? Are you looking for a older dog who wants nothing more than to be your best friend and companion?
I am neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. My adoption fee is $650.
* Now Charlie is being fostered in Calgary.
* Loved at Last Dog Rescue and Welcome Dog Rescue Canada are working together to find a home for Charlie.
