Hi. My name is Chesney. I’m three years old, but I look and play like a little kitten. If you have any toys - I’m all in! I love cheek rubs, wet food, and all my cat friends here at the shelter. The shelter is the first place I felt safe. Before I got here, I lived in a home that was… well, not good. There were a lot, - I mean a lot of cats, and we didn’t get enough positive human interaction, so we never learned to trust. When I first got to LAS I was terrified. If a person even looked at me, I ran away. It was wet food and toys that taught me that people can be kind to me. And slowly I learned to trust some of the people at the shelter. In fact, now they can pet me and I love it. I love them. When I think about getting adopted, I know that I’ll need: 1) another cat in the home, 2) a quieter environment, and 3) people who are experienced with cats like me. Despite making amazing gains with people here, moving to a new place will be traumatic, so my new family will have to know that it will take me a good while to recover. So, that’s me emotionally. Physically, I have something called *FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus). That means I have a reduced immune system. My health issues sometimes scare people away. Being POS-FIV, my adopters will just have to take super great care of me, like having nutritious food and 2X year vet visits. FIV positive cats can live long lives with a bit of extra care. I hope you are the person that will give me a forever home. Please come to LAS and talk to the staff about adopting me. I’ll be in the Teal adoption room waiting for you!
*LAS routinely checks for FIV, as it is a common virus found in cats living outdoors. All of the cats in the Teal adoption room have tested positive for FIV. You cannot catch FIV, and you can’t spread it. It is only transmitted by blood from one feline to another. Please come visit our FIV cats, they are some of the friendliest cats we have at the shelter.
