HISTORY: Twila was an owner release to Red Waggin' Rescue in 2020. She is a loving, cuddly and smart lab and Shar-Pei mix with a hound focus on scent. She is about 5-6 years of age and weighs in at about 47 lbs,
Twila suffered an acute herniated disc in her neck requiring emergency surgery on 5/11/21. She is recovering now in a foster home and can take walks around the neighborhood, as well as light play with her foster parent’s dog.
FOSTER UPDATE: Twila is house trained, well-mannered and responsive to her people. She will come when called indoors and in the yard. She knows basic commands and will sit and wait nicely for meals. Her foster family is working with her on leash training.
Some of Twila’s favorite activities are taking walks in the neighborhood, playing with toys, lightly playing with her foster dog-sibling, and cuddling with her foster parents. When her foster mom is reading, Twila will snuggle next to her for hours. Twila is a real sweetheart who will adore your pets and snuggles. Her future family will be lucky to have such a loving dog!
Due to the surgery, Twila is restricted from vigorous exercise (i.e. running, wrestling with other dogs, etc), but that doesn’t stop her from enjoying her easy strolls around the neighborhood! She is wary of strangers, particularly men, but hand her some treats and she will instantly ask to be cuddled. Twila is very excited to meet new dogs, so her foster family is working on teaching her to either greet nicely or ignore other dogs on walks. Her future family can continue to work on this skill with her through patience and positive training.
Twila loves her people very much and would prefer to spend as much of her time around them as possible. Although she misses her foster parents when they leave the house, she feels comfortable being home alone with her foster family’s dog (separated by a crate or pen).
She would be happy with another low to medium energy dog in the family but isn’t a good match for cats. She would also do well in a home with older, dog-savvy children. If you are retired and/or are frequently at home, Twila may be the perfect, cuddle buddy for you!
