My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Niko! This adorable 3-year-old, 56-pound German Shepherd mix has a playful and curious personality that will charm anyone he meets. He arrived at the shelter with his two siblings in 2021 and has been in foster care since early last year. His foster family has discovered so much about him and fallen in love with his unique quirks and goofy nature. Niko will surely capture the heart of his forever family just as he has theirs!
Niko deals with a little anxiety, so he's looking for a patient and understanding home where he can take his time to feel comfortable. Once he feels safe and secure, Niko transforms into a cuddly companion, always eager to be by your side as your loyal best friend. Niko is an intelligent boy and with a good routine, is fully potty trained. He knows "sit" and is motivated to learn so much more!

Niko does great with other dogs but needs a little extra time to warm up to cats. He can be a tad bit nervous around them until he realizes they want to be his friend! Niko suffers from epilepsy, so he will need someone willing to learn about his condition and provide the care he requires. He's a strong and resilient boy who never lets his condition bring him down. He's ready to find his forever family! Niko is neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on his vaccines. Call the shelter to schedule a meet-and-greet with him and his foster!

OUR MISSION

We strive to ensure a safe, healthy, and loving environment that will provide temporary shelter for abandoned, stray, and surrendered animals and to find each animal a new and prosperous home.

OUR STORY

The Babinski Foundation was established in 2010 by Donald and Elizabeth Babinski owners and founders of Babinski Properties which owns multifamily housing in Minnesota, Florida and South Dakota. He and his wife Elizabeth were working tirelessly to get the animal shelter opened which was their dream, but Donald Babinski passed away August 11th, 2014 before the shelter could open. Elizabeth continued where they left off and the Foundation opened in January 2016 in Pequot Lakes, MN. Elizabeth passed away on November 13th, 2020. Donald and Elizabeth’s dream was finally realized, and Donald and Elizabeth’s surviving family and friends will continue to work hard to fulfill their mission.
