Blaze, a beautiful black lab and neutered male, was surrendered (along with his brother Duke) on 2/7/22. ARF's trainer met and assessed the dogs on 2/1/22. They are very pretty and smart, but they need someone's time, attention, and instruction. They have not been taught not to jump up or pull on the leash, etc. The dogs were surrendered by their second owner, for the first had rehomed them to a farm family expecting them to enjoy life in the country. The first owner gave them everything they needed as far as vetting, but the farm family who surrendered them had given them no vetting. Rather than a leisurely life in a serene country setting, the dogs were kept in a kennel during the day and in a crate in the house at night. They actually got less and less companionship and attention, for their pent-up energy caused them to bolt out of the kennel and have to be found and returned home. The less the dogs were exercised, the worst the problem became. Their second family didn't intend to be mean to them but were simply inexperienced. So these beautiful 2 to 2 1/2 year old boys act more like puppies than adult dogs, even though they are large, black, beautiful full-grown dogs. The original vetting papers list their birthdate as 8/29/19, which could be accurate or merely a "guesstimate." Neither Blaze nor his brother Duke have exhibited any aggression with toys or food. Their food bowl could be picked up and given back at will. The dogs have been with children, but being big dogs, they could accidentally knock young children down. Blaze weighed 68 pounds at his vet visit of 2/15/22 when shots were updated. Both 4DX and fecal were negative, but Blaze and Duke received drontal, rabies, DHPP, bordatella, lepto, and Nexgard. Blaze has a notation on his chart that he is missing a bottom tooth, but that notation should be on Duke's chart. These brothers look so much alike that they are often confused, even by the vet. Both dogs loved the attention of the vet and her staff. They will learn quickly and want to please someone who gives them the love and attention they need. These beautiful dogs didn't get a great start in life, but their lives just took a turn for the better by being rescued! The best is yet to come for them!
