Max is a recent addition to rescue and we are still getting to learn more of his sweet personality

Max was an owner surrender in Topeka, KS to the local shelter and the shelter contacted us to help him out, so he made the long jaunt to IA and is happy as ever. He is a middle aged fellow around 6 years young but his age certainly does not slow his spirit down! He gets along famously with all his current hound brothers and loves to do the Basset 500 with them! He also attends doggy daycare and has done well there as well. He is very gentle in nature and would LOVE children in his forever home. We are working on his house training as he has only ever been an outdoor hound, but he is one smart boy and quickly picking up on it. Any home he goes to will need to have patience and guidance while he is learning a new routine. Rescue is kindly requesting he go to a home with a secure fenced in yard for his benefit. He is UTD on all vaccinations, de-wormed, Heart Worm tested negative and on preventative and altered. If you would like to hear more info on Max please contact Helena at

Adoption Information:



Please remember Every animal for adoption through an Hounds Haven is fully vetted for their age and only needs routine preventive care. Dogs older then 6 months of age are heartworm tested! All dogs are kept on heartworm preventative. Every hound is vaccinated (age appropriate), and de-wormed, in addition to being spayed/neutered.



We are asking for interested parties to fill out a pre-adoption questionnaire prior to us lining up an appointment for them to see the hound(s) at the hound(s)' home.
