Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Barkley is devoted to family. He is a young, high energy boy.
Barkley can be leary of strangers. For those familiar with the term "stranger danger" consider it applicable to this boy. He came to Illinois Humane via animal control after being dumped in the country. We are not so sure he had any socialization as he was coming up but all signs indicate it was minimal at best. He was estimated to be about 8-9 months when he arrived at animal control. He endeared himself to the animal control officer who brought him in, who requested Illinois Humane to pull him and take custody as soon as possible so he didn't get in trouble at animal control. For the most part, Barkley loved everyone. He can be leary of strangers tho.
Thus, when strangers come into his world, they must be warned not to approach him -- not to approach him quickly or try to pet him. Certainly don't make eye contact. Let Barkley decide when to approach. No rushing things!
Barkley loves a lot of attention. Activity is great at this stage in his life, so someone who likes to get out in the backyard and play a variety of the best dog games, or otherwise spend time outdoors with outdoor activity would be ideal.
As for other animals, he is very curious of cats. He has made special friends with some cats. Others he may chase. He does not show dog aggression. He became very close with an older female in his foster home, who mothered him. She gave him the big paw when he needed to settle down or stop whatever he was doing. He adored her. Very unfortunately she recently passed away of cancer.
At 9-10 months of age, yes he does chew. He will even ingest things he shouldn't. He needs supervision.
