Hi Folks, I sure appreciate y'all stopping by to check me out. But how could you not??? I mean, I am one handsome dude!! Please read my entire bio and do not apply to adopt me based solely on my looks and size. These folks here at the shelter have been really great at knowing what my particular needs are going to be in my new home so pay attention!! My past?? Well, in my previous home I lived with another small dog and an owner that stayed indoors most of the time. She took us out to potty and then right back in again. As a result, we were not socialized with other people, so a lot of commotion or quick movements make me very cautious. I have a hard time trusting humans simply because I have not been exposed to strangers in my short (3 year) lifetime. However, once I am comfy with people I will sit on a lap for HOURS and love to be petted and loved on. I warm up quickly, but it has to be on MY terms which means just leave me be and I will decide when to introduce myself to you. With this in mind, the folks here have decided that I would NOT be a good fit for a home with a lot of "goings on". They also feel that although I enjoy kids, they are insisting that none under the age of 10 due to those lil ones and their quick movements. I walk great on a leash and am proud to say that I keep my kennel very clean! That's not to say that I am completely housebroken as that is really yet to be determined since I am not currently in a home atmosphere. But my current caretakers here at the shelter feel that with patience and consistency I would do great. My new owner(s) would need to commit to working on my socialization skills at my pace and puppy classes with a reputable trainer would greatly improve my confidence along with allowing a great bonding experience. Once I bond with my human(s) I want to be near them all the time!! Sit on their lap, follow them around when they leave a room etc... If I am left alone, I will bark and scratch at a door in an attempt to get them to come back to me!! Yet another reason I will require confidence building in the form of socialization and training. I have yet to play with toys or other dogs, but I have no trouble hanging with the other dogs here at the shelter. I have only been here at the shelter for 2 weeks and with the help of the volunteers and staff I have come a LONG way from my first day when I was trying to bite anyone that touched me!! I now seek out attention from those I recognize. So, you see I will require a patient, stable, quiet home with an owner(s) that is willing to supply me with confidence, love and lots of lap time!!! If you have taken the time to read this, please reread it and if you think you are able to commit to helping me become the dog that I was meant to be then fill out that application!! I am sure I will be receiving a lot of applications and as a result my "girls" will be sure to process them in depth as they want this to be the only time I am in need of a home. love, toby xoxoxo
