My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This itty bitty boy is Elmo. He is an adorable, 12 year old senior Yorkie mix. Elmo is only 3.8 skinny pounds, he is such a little guy. Elmo needs some medical care soon. He is being fostered in Dunedin, FL

UPDATED BIO 2/11/22: "Elmo is an amazing little boy", says both his vet and foster mom. His neuter, dental, blood work, microchip, and all vaccines are now complete. It was thought that he would lose all of his teeth due to neglect and decay, but this boy managed to keep 25 good teeth, and is he ever feeling so much better now that his infected mouth has been taken care of!

His blood tests overall are good. While he has a few levels higher and lower than normal, his vet is not at all concerned and feels that once he heals and feels better they may stabilize.

He also has "rubber jaw", due to a degeneration of the bone in his jaw. He has apparently lived with it for a very long time, has adjusted to it, and is not in any pain.

While he had lost the hair on his back due to flea dermatitis, it is slowly starting to grow back and the hope is that he will get at least most of his hair back.

While he does have an occasional accident, he usually is happy to go outside and do his business. Elmo doesn't require a fenced in yard, but his adopter would need to be willing to take him out for regular walks.

Elmo continues to be the sweet little boy he was when he came from the shelter. He gets along with other dogs although, due to his age, doesn't really choose to play with them. He loves his walks, does nicely on the leash, and loves to sniff and sniff some more. He eats well and, much to his foster mom's delight, sleeps through the night and only gets up when she does. He loves his car rides and, most of all, loves to be held and be near his person.

Elmo is a sweet, laid back kind of guy who is fine with everyone he meets. Don't let Elmo's age fool you - for a senior he has a lot of spunk and is a perky little fellow. Although we have no idea what he went through, we do know that he is resilient and is ready to live the good life he deserves!

If you would like to give this sweet dog his final and forever loving home, please submit an application. You can email Elmo's foster mom if you have any questions. Given Elmo's tiny size and age, he needs a home with someone home much of the time who can give him the time and attention he so badly loves. Please, no children under the age of 14.
