Hi there! I’m Hotch. My friends call me Hotchy Hoo.
Have you scrolled through my photos and videos yet? If so, you’ve probably already noticed a few things about me : I have GIGANTIC eyeballs. The more to adore you with! My ears stick out like little satellite antennas. The better to hear you tell me that I’m a good boy! I have the best smile. So you always know I’m very happy to be with you!
Over the past few months, I’ve been living it up in foster. And while my foster humans are awesome, we all think I’m ready for my forever home! I have sooo many amazing qualities!
Let’s start with the obvious stuff. I love meeting new people. In fact, I love all the humans so much that I landed a gig as a new volunteer mentor dog when I was at the shelter. And at home, I love having visitors over - especially when we all get to snuggle up on the couch for movie night!
From my time in a home, we know that I’m house trained, a quiet companion, can keep myself busy by playing with my toys, I love a good romp around the backyard, but also love to chill on a couch.
Out and about, I absolutely love a good stroll. I’m a pretty easy peasy guy on the leash, although those pesky cats can be a little exciting! I also have this on-going game with squirrels…I walk super slowly towards then, they dart up a tree, and by the time I get to where the squirrel was he’s looking down at me laughing. It’s the best game!
My volunteer friends have taken me on so many local adventures : I’m an ATX lover through and through. I’ve been to the greenbelt (I love to swim), McKinney Falls State Park, downtown to see the Capitol, Zilker Park, Lady Bird Lake Hike & Bike Trail, Zed’s for ice cream, and my most favorite stop is getting a burger from P. Terry’s.
My human friends can tell you so much more, but I think the one thing they’d want you to know most is that I have a heart of gold and even though I’m young at heart, I have an old soul spirit. I may look tough, but I am sensitive and kind. I can quickly pick up on how my humans are feeling and know how to connect with them in a meaningful way.
I have been through a lot the last few years, but I haven’t let that crush my hopes of finding my forever people. Maybe you’re the one?
If you think you might be, please reach out to my best volunteers and advocates, Orange Dot Crew. I go home with their full support and they’d love

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day! For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites. For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.
Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older
