Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hello - my name is LUIGI - (name given by my Rescue mom, the founder of ADR.org)
I have to say that my life here on Orcas Island WA is quite nice (where I live with the founder of ADR.org, together with other dogs) but I still do look for a home of me own- because this is still just temporary.
As to my own "features”: I am approximately 6-8 yrs. old, neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped.
I am a very laid-back buddy that loves to "patrol" the backyard or property that you might have. Nice would be a fence that is solid, and I can look through. I love the inside of a home, as my former owner neglected me and left me most of the time alone. so sometimes I am hesitant to come into the house when you call me, and despite knowing you my bad memories come back when I was chased to the outside or was only very rarely let in.
I can live with other dogs; I can care less unless a dog is too much in my face and is challenging me. I do not like that and would then prefer being along. BUT of course, a companion - like a nice female- would be very welcome by me!
I lived with a female chow before brought to the shelter in Monterey, CA - and we had 7 adorable boys together. But I only met some of them because some of them went in good homes here in WA. My "wife" PERLA was also adopted and lives now in Sequim, WA.
The other things I love are 1) FOOD. I put some weight on because I was just skin and bones when pulled from shelter but now, I bring about 60lbs to the scale. 2) scratching under my chin and on my chest- GOSH I fall for that.
AS for you "out there" contemplating to meet me:
- I am NOT an apartment dog - I love too much to spend some hours outside in a fence yard watching movements and chasing squirrels
- I do not like loud, hectic multi people (come-and go/in and out) homes. Being shy and not used to having so many people around I would hide all the time
- I live with cats here too, and I can care less
- I will be very skittish at the beginning of our relationship but I will warm up to you when you relay assertiveness and safety to me. You cannot push a button and all will be as you “expect” – we have to get used to each other at a pace we chose.
- I could see myself living with a person that is retired, has enough time to walk with me multiple times per day and otherwise I will lie at your feet and/or guard the “property”.
If you are interested in me, my “now buddy- the founder of the rescue that saved me” , you need to email her at ADR@animaldefenserescue.org so that she can send you an application (we do not have online applications). Then she would like to have some photos of you, your home, and backyard and hear a lot about you. That will happen over a phone call.
We are not monitoring requests on FB, no time for that.
Woofly yours,
LUIGI
