Spanky is a 15-male Sunday Conure, a hybrid of a Sun Conure and Jenday Conure.

This spunky little guy has tons of energy and is extremely vocal.

Not clear what he has to say, but he says plenty!

Typical sassy little conure.

Hand-tame steps up easily love to run right up to your shoulder.

Doesn't like you messing with things in his cage, and will
nip at you if you are working around him ;)

When out of the cage, sometimes gets flighty and nippy with others in the home.
He prefers to be with a male (tall preferably ;) caretaker, and sometimes shows
jealousy toward others.
He would do best with a single male, or couple, not ideally good with children.

We were told he does not like plastic bags, so we are keeping them away from him.

Not exactly sure why he does not like them, but we do our best to keep them away from him.

Great eater!! Only fresh food and pellets, and only seed as a treat.

Not a good bird for an Apartment, Condo, or Townhouse, as he can get very loud at times.

He has full flight and knows how to fly very well

Might do best in a home with no other birds (jealousy again)

He can on occasion get Jealous if overstimulated and become nippy.

He has a beak that will overgrow and will need to be maintained.
The bottom beak grows off to the side and has to be trimmed every 6-8 weeks

Spanky is being fostered in Leonardo, NJ, and will only be adopted to a forever home within driving distance.

We will not ship our birds.

As Spanky is living in a volunteer's private home, we only allow approved applicants to make visits.

Additional adoption info

The adoption procedure begins with completing an adoption application and returning it to us. We will check your references and then call you for a telephone interview. While we check your references, we will ask that you review an educational power point presentation. After your application is approved, it is our policy that you visit with the bird(s) three times to have multiple interactions with them and give you time to consider the adoption and get ready for your new family member. There is an adoption fee for each bird.

For the Love of Birds is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of companion birds. We are a network of volunteers throughout New Jersey, and surrounding areas. We take in birds in need of new homes, and place them in nurturing and educational foster homes until a loving new family is found.
