Chico came to us from a nearby shelter. He was taken from a hoarder. He had lived his entire, short life in a trailer, with no human contact. He had not even been outside. He has been with us since (May 2021) We have worked with him and he has come a long way. He is still a little shy anyone new. When he first came to us, he hid and was too afraid to be around anyone. He now likes to be with everyone. He will allow you to pet him on his terms, even will get in your lap. Especially if there is another dog/cat, then he wants in on the action. He will allow his fosters to pet him all over, even his belly. He still cannot be picked up. Foster is still working on this. However, once he knows you, he will allow you to pet him, sits on the sofa with you or gets in the bed. Most recently, has periodically started to lie next to or on his fosters' lap. (Huge improvement!) He has come a very long way. He uses pee pads,but will still need work with housebreaking. He is very good about using them. He now goes outside with his foster family in a fenced backyard, He is now starting to play with toys. He does well at mealtime. He knows the routine and waits for his bowl or treat. He is very "monkey see/monkey do" so a home with another dog or two would help him feel comfortable, adjust and build confidence. He is pretty smart. More one on one attention is what he needs, than being in foster with many others. We feel he is ready to go to someone aware that he still needs time and work and/or familiar with helping a dog adjust, trust and feel comfortable. This poor little guy did not even know what it was to be a dog until we got him, He does go outside with his foster family in a fenced yard. He is right by his foster, following them all around. He is not comfortable with small children, so we recommend a home with children over 10+ years old. We will be happy to answer any questions, just email us. Chico deserves a chance. He is very young and full of love he doesn't even know how to give yet. He is a work in process. He loves elderly and quiet people. He is a very handsome, quiet little dog.
He is UTD shots, neutered, housebroken (pee pads), micro-chipped and heartworm (-)

Animal Adoption Society is a non-profit animal rescue group. We operate strictly on the assistance of volunteers. We do not have a facility/shelter or set visiting hours to see the animals. All of the animals in our care are placed in foster homes of volunteers. If you are interested in an animal, please contact AAS to make a mutually convenient appointment.
