My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pooka Summary:
Pooka is an 11-week old female mix breed. She weighs around 16lbs right now. We are unsure how big she will get, but her new family should be prepared that she could top out anywhere in the 50-90lb range. She is good with other dogs, cats, and kids. She will need an active family, that has another playful dog OR is home all the time and has lots of walking/hiking trails around them. She is NOT a candidate for apartment living. She will need a family that is okay working with her on potty training and is prepared for everything that comes with having an energetic puppy.
-------------------------------------------

I will never understand. How can one welcome someone to their family and then just abandon them? Just let them sit in the shelter? Exposed to all sorts of diseases, and even at risk of losing their life? Whatever happened to commitment? Whatever happened to loyalty? Pooka is a result of someone bringing her home because she is so DARN cute and then realizing they were not ready for the responsibility. Instead of ensuring she ended up somewhere safe, she ended up in the shelter. She spent a few weeks there before we found out about her and welcomed her to our fluffy butt. She deserved so much better, and it is so sad to know that at such a young age someone already failed her.

In the end, it worked out. We now have a new family member and she now has the chance to find a forever family. One that will love her to the moon and back as she deserves! <3 Pooka is an 11 week old female Great Pyrenees mix. To be honest, we are not even for sure of her breed. She could be a Sarplaninac dog, or she could be a jack of all trades. All we can promise you is that she is 25% adorable, 25% feisty, and 50% going to steal your heart in under 5 minutes!

Pooka does well when meeting new people and is friendly. She is still a puppy but hasn't jumped on people so far. Pooka recently went with her foster to Tractor Supply and absolutely loved all the attention she was given. If you are looking for a dog that enjoys social settings...I think you just found your new best friend! Pooka is working on her leash training but does ride well in the car.

Pooka's energy level can be best described as curious and playful. While Pooka is still working on her leash training, we believe that she will love going for walks once she gets the hang of it. As far as hikes go, once she is older and more experienced on a leash she would make a great hiking partner. Pooka is uninterested in playing fetch currently and we are unsure if she enjoys playing in the water or not. She does love going through the toy basket and picking out toys to chew on though.

Pooka is too little to have free-roam of the house at this time. With that said, she has not shown to be destructive in the house. Right now she likes to chew on dog toys and is pretty good about sticking to those. It probably won't be too much longer and she could be trusted. She is working on her potty and kennel training. Currently, she is baby-gated to a certain area when no one is around to watch her and she does really well. Pooka is not only going to be a big dog but also on the energetic side. Knowing this, we do not believe she is a candidate for apartment living. Pooka has not shown to be a big barker, however, she is still young so that may change as she gets older.

Pooka is good with other dogs, cats, and kids. She has not shown to have any food aggression or issues with resource guarding. Pooka likes to be kept busy so having another dog to play with would definitely be a plus. She would also do well with someone that takes her lots of places and go for walks with her.

Pooka is an absolute adorable ball of fluff. She loves going places and meeting people, you will definitely want to keep up her social skills. She adapts quickly to her surroundings and loves hanging out inside the house or going outside to play. At the end of the day, she is happy to snuggle up on the couch and just be with her people ❤️

Pooka is being fostered in Skiatook, OK. We do adopt out of state, but adopters are responsible for picking their new family member up. Her adoption fee is $275 which includes three sets of puppy shots and wormings. She will also have had her bordetella and rabies. She will be micro-chipped, have a fecal done, be de-wormed, be spayed/neutered, and will be current on heart-worm and flea/tick prevention.
