My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I'm Kona! Pleased to meet you, friend!

Kona is a 3 year old, 70 lb Shepherd mix and a shelter employee and volunteer favorite! This big girl has got personality! A lover of long walks, hikes, car rides, belly rubs, and treatos! She'll give a paw or two for cookies. She loves everyone she meets and she's our "dog test" dog because of her calmness and mild mannered demeanor around fellow canines.

So what's the catch? Why do incredible dogs like Kona get overlooked?

With great personality comes quirks sometimes. For Kona, it's resource guarding. Simply put, in the past when she has decided something is hers... she has defended her ownership of it fiercely. Whether it be high value objects or food items.

That said, she has received some training to work with her resource guarding and she has not had any incidences in almost a year now. Her daily dog walkers speak volumes of her as being the easiest dog to walk in the entire kennel. As well as most affectionate!

Because of her past resource guarding, she would do best in a low traffic home without young children or other pets. Someone who has experience with canine resource guarding or can provide training for her would be of most benefit to her in a new home.

Please give Kona the chance she deserves. She's got so much love to give and so much joy to share!
