SPECIAL NEEDS PUPPY - PLEASE READ FULL BIO!
This sweet approx 5 mth old doodle type mix is Wonder. Wonder and his 3 siblings joined our rescue when a good smaritan rescued them from a farm in Lancaster. They all are blind or severely visually impaired and as such were not saleable. However we think it just adds to their uniqueness and know they are all deserving of very loving homes and are committed to helping them find them. Now that they have been with us for about 3 weeks and been treated for ear and eye infections or varying degrees, gained some weight, been brought up to date on vaccines they are ready for their new homes!
Wonder, although the biggest of the group and the most poodle looking, is easily startled. He will bark and growl in the direction of unexpected sounds when he is confused as he has no sight at all.
Wonder would do well in a home with another friendly dog who could act as his "helper" and guide. Although Wonder is very sweet with people, including kids, we will not currently place him in a home with kids under 8 due to him being easily startled. We think the noise and activity of younger kids just might be a bit overstimulating and confusing for him.
Wonder will need a family that is very understanding of the time commitment needed to train any puppy, but particularly one who may need a little extra help navigating and learning our world and would also be open to investing in a trainer if and when needed. He is a dog who will need regular professional grooming as well.
Wonder will be placed in a foster to adopt situation as he will need some upcoming surgery to remove his eyes (covered as part of his adoption fee). We would love for him to recover from surgery in a home, rather than our busy adoption center. The adoption fee also includes his neuter, age appropriate vaccinations and microchipping. He is also up to date on preventatives.
