Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/.
Please note that because all of our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about an hour of Wilmington, DE in order for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in person home visit.
Meet our gentle giant Deja
We pulled Deja from ACCT in Philly this fall. Brought in as a stray, we were well aware she would need some extended vetting prior to adoption .
She had a pretty significant neck tumor and shoulder mass that would need removal, but first we dealt with multiple infections, including a resistant UTI, that delayed her surgery for some time. With all of her medical needs now addressed , including great margins on both tumor sites - and no active infections, she’s ready to find her forever home. Truly a gentle, extremely laid back soul, we are searching for a home which would ideally be as willing to sit back and smell the roses as she is …. Medically she’s pretty low key, just needing arthritis meds 2x a day to minimize her aches and pains.
She can easily do stairs, but keeping that to a minimum and one floor living would best suit her. She is very food motivated ( actually gained almost 25lbs in foster care) and has never been a picky eater. No food, dog or toy aggression for this gal, she’s very good about listening to your direction. She is extremely quiet, and barks at next to nothing, a very big plus for those seeking the quiet type. A fenced in yard is a must, this is what brings the most pleasure to her, just hanging on a deck, in the grass, and being with her people! Daily walks are a must also- she is an explorer, but as with most seniors her age, with a little effort - she is very content for the rest of the day !
The make it or break it contingency for her is that she isn’t completely house broken. We believe strongly she was an outside dog all her life, but she’s doing her best to adapt. She has improved tremendously with a consistent schedule, and potty breaks that are available to her every 4-5 hrs. She sleeps through the night, is a dream on a leash, in the car, and meeting other dogs. So her toughest hurdle to overcome is to continue her housebreaking schedule and hope for more improvement within your homes rules and schedule. Were it not for this, she would be the perfect dog, but as her foster says - this inconvenience hardly compares to sweetness, kindness and loving spirit found in her soul ❤️
Her stats:
Age - Approx 12-13 years young
Spayed - yes
Housebroken - working on it !
Medications - Rimadyl 75mg 2x a day for arthritis- approx $60/month
Weight - 75 lbs of love
Breed - unknown mixed
Activity level - low 😊
Vaccinations- UTD
Good with dogs - yes
cats - unknown
Best home: low key, homebodies who sit and watch Netflix most nights, one level house with a fenced in yard, and an owner who likes slow, easy walks in the park.. ……her dream house for your dream dog ❤️
