My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bear has been in foster with another dog and cat and has been an absolute ANGEL! He loves walks and car rides, is fully potty trained, a great big couch potato / co-worker who is content to lounge around while you need him quiet but also revels in the chance to get outside and see the world. Bear has been friendly to all stranger dogs on his walkies but doesn’t require the presence of another dog in his forever home. We LOVE knowing he’s good with cats since it helps paint the picture of what a true gentleman he is. He’s been on trips to The Home Depot and was as popular as Tim the Toolman Taylor while he was there! He even likes to accompany his foster on bike rides! If you’re looking for an easy peasy older dude to join your family, Bear is the Best!

What happens to your pets when something happens to you? Most of us have a plan in place, a trust set up, a support system ready to jump in and take care of the pets we so love in the unfortunate event that we become unable to care for them ourselves. But what happens when someone without a support system, without the means to plan ahead, without a home or family dies and leaves four beloved pets behind? For Sheri Hill, that story is being written still.

Sheri was a long-time transient resident of the Citrus Park area. She could be seen walking her grocery cart or wagon full of her belongings with her family of pets tethered to it. People often helped Sheri and her pets in various ways including having a caring group of people raise enough funds to rent a trailer recently where she could reside WITH HER PETS. Before this dramatic outpouring of love, Sheri was often offered help that didn’t take into account her beloved charges. She denied each of them. A place of residence that wouldn’t allow her babies was not something she would consider. But when the opportunity to house her whole family came up, she of course jumped at the chance!

Over Thanksgiving, the same community of folks who helped provide for Sheri and her dogs in this manner collected food and supplies and left them at her trailer for her. Multiple calls, texts, visits resulted in no response to what would assuredly have been a well-received and much appreciated outpouring of love. They become very concerned.

Sadly, it was soon discovered Sheri had passed away. Her pups were left with nowhere to go and no one to care for them. The owner of local boarding/daycare facility Groomingdales and long-time Sheri-supporter has taken the babies into her facility and reached out to us for help finding them loving forever homes. It is the mission of everyone who knew Sheri to find places of which she would approve. Her love, dedication, and commitment to her pets was absolute despite not having much in the way of tangible assets. What she offered them was unconditional love and as much protection and care as she could possibly provide – forsaking her own care if necessary.

BEAR - 14 y Shep Mix, 65#, Healthy, alert, SUPER lovable NEEDS A FOREVER HOME ♥️
