My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Savannah!

*Savannah's adoption fee has been sponsored anonymously.*

Savannah loves to do the German Shepherd hug. She leans in to you with all of her heart. She has all of the wonderful loyal-obedient-sensitive shepherd traits. Also like a shepherd, she “talks” to you a lot. She is so expressive and intent on connecting to her people. Her eyes speak volumes. If you have had a shepherd, you will understand the “talk.” :-)

That said, Savannah is not a guard dog. She may bark at something new with the pack, but she is very outgoing and friendly. I’m pretty sure she has never met a stranger, with two or four legs, who she hasn’t wanted to make friends with.

Savannah is sweet with other dogs, enjoys their company and loves to play. She is laid back in the house but does have working dog energy and appreciates her fenced yard with space exercise & play. Savannah also enjoys down time outside, weather permitting, which helps her stay clean and dry. In two of her foster homes she has been happy out on the lawn for stretches of time just watching the world go by and keeping watch over the horses on nice days. Savannah especially loves to be out with her people and does chores and helps garden and mow the lawn and shovel snow. She is an expert at making work into fun and has hilarious antics that make her people smile. She loves being a helper and if you have a job for her she is on it, even if that just means responding to the word “come!” Inside Savannah likes her big fluffy dog bed in the living room the best. She is happy to snuggle next to you on the sofa too but prefers to sleep on her bed at night. She shares food and even lets her little foster brother take bones away form her. She is a very humble shepherd and rolls over on her back for the puppy to play with her and for people to rub her belly.

Savannah loves being part of the human and dog pack and gets very excited to go on car rides and hops right in when you ask her to. So she is easy to take on visits and for walks. She is fiv3 years old now, 50 pounds, and has been in foster for over a year because she was hit by a car and relinquished to a shelter, where good friends of Albert’s saved her life. Because of her accident Savannah is incontinent now and sometimes her rear leg gets sore at night and she needs to take some doggie pain killers. However, all of those things just make her stand out as even more special because Savannah is awesome about wearing diapers inside & waiting to have them put on at the door. Like I said, if she knows you want her to do something she is the most compliant and willing partner. If she is changed regularly she stays dry and is easy to keep clean. Her foster mom does one load of dog diapers on the weekend and uses disposables underneath, so it is very manageable for someone willing to take that bit of time for her.

The best thing about Savannah is not just her amazingly resilient spirit but her gorgeous, engaging personality. She is just so much love in one dog! Savannah inspires us all to live life to the fullest with gratitude for every day, no matter what the world sends our way. Because nothing keeps her spirits or her sweetness down. Savannah has so much to teach us all about what is important and of value in this gift of life we have. She is just precious and delightful and deserves a home as special as she is.

Disclaimer: It is VERY difficult even for a veterinarian to tell the exact age of a dog over two years old. From one vet to another, we can get different age estimates on the same dog and they can vary by several years. We are only making an educated guess based on a few factors like teeth, fur color, and overall body condition, but for dogs who have not been given adequate vet care and food, it can be even more difficult. Every dog is an individual, and we do our very best to age appropriately but make no guarantees as to the age of any dog in our program.
