My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Update 7/5/22:

Alex is doing really well on his anxiety medication. His anxiety in the house is almost non-existent and now loves to snuggle and cuddle on the couch w/his people. On the rare occasion an anxiety attack does happen, it’s just barking in circles and much quicker to calm down. Not to be confused with Separation Anxiety. He is not destructive and has only ripped up 3 stuffies in the last year. A far cry from your typical Doberman Shredder. This boy loves his Kong filled w/goodies, a babble ball, & stuffies that squeak crinkle, or “talk.” Alex likes to carry around a treat dispensing ball (with or without treats in it) and squeeze it like a stress reliever ball and will fall asleep w/it in his mouth. He is GREAT in the crate and picks up on routines quickly. He knows Sit, Shake, Down, Wait and can navigate stairs like a Boss. He knows, but is not solid on Leave it & Heel. He is absolutely awesome in a car and loves to go on walks, but it still very nervous when he smells and/or hears other dogs while out and about. I’ve had this boy out to 4 different parks, the Airport, Lowes, the Bank, Culvers, the local ice cream shop, a local First Friday Festival w/live music and crowds of people, and a Farmers Market. This sweet boy has charmed about everyone he’s met, he just needs someone looking for an only child to come meet him and give him a chance.

This Handsome Hunk of Love is Alex, aka Captain Alex No Eyes! This young boy is about 2-3 years old and was born without eyes. He is a smart boy and loves to go on walks and loves to learn new things and is super proud of himself when he does! Even though he cannot see, there are times you will swear that he can. Like when he gazes soulfully into your eyes or watches you walk across a room (his hearing is phenomenal). Most people he encounters just see a big, beautiful boy and don’t even realize he is blind unless they take the time to stop and study his face. Alex would like to be an only dog as his past life in an animal hoarder home paired w/his blindness has caused some anxiety issues we just haven’t been able to overcome yet. He’s been super w/all people he has met, both adults and children, but a home without young children would probably be best. His medication has helped his anxiety in the house 99%, but he will still occasionally have an anxiety attack. Don’t let all that scare you though because he is still your typical dorky dobie red boy who loves his toys, and cuddles, following you to the bathroom, and helping you cook.
