Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Miss Lacee. She is 5 years old and 45 lbs. of sweetness. Lacee is an Australian Shepherd / Border Collie Mix. She has the softest coat you’ll ever feel. She loves to get all the pets. She is perfectly crate trained and treat motivated.
Lacee is very smart but can be a little stubborn at times. She is almost completely potty trained but does require that you stay on a schedule and watch for her signals (sitting and staring at you, walking around sniffing)
Because Lacee was a former breeder dog, she has had limited loving human contact causing her to be very shy and timid. She is in the process of learning how to accept love and attention and is getting better as time goes on.
Lacee has become her foster mom’s shadow and makes GREAT eye contact. She is getting better with the male in the home but is still very standoffish with him. She will need a lot of time and patience to become her best self. She doesn’t know how to play with toys yet. She will occasionally chew on a Nylabone. Lacee will sit, shake hands, lay down and is doing very well with "wait to eat" and "stay until called."
Lacee came to us heartworm positive and has successfully completed treatment. For this reason, she still needs some socialization. She did well on her first leash walks but still needs will need to continue mastering them. Lacee initially barks at people when they come into the home, however, she warms up slowly and will eventually come for treats and pets once the humans are sitting down.
Lacee does not have a mean bone in her body. She gets along well with other dogs but has not been tested with cats. When meeting children she was timid and shy. She let some young children (ages 12, 10, 3) pet her and even took treats from them. Children can overwhelm her, so she will retreat to her crate for rest. For this reason, we recommend a home with children over 12, who are dog savvy and who can respect her space.
Lacee has GREAT potential with the right family. She is just starting to come out of her shell and showing her fun side following her heartworm treatment. She is making great strides in learning to trust. She will require an adopter who has lots of patience and can give guidance in a gentler way. A quieter environment would be best. Another outgoing dog would be a great fit for Lacee.
Lacee is now heartworm negative, spayed, up to date on vaccines. She receives monthly preventatives for flea/tick and heartworms and will need to remain on them for the rest of her life.
