My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sammie is a tough girl who was not only discarded, but she ended up with stage 4 heartworm disease. The shelter she went to was going to euthanize her, but our rescue took her in and immediately sent her to the vet. Fluid was drained from her swollen abdomen several times during the 30 days that she was on antibiotics prior to the first heartworm treatment. She made it through that and the rest period, then she had her second heartworm treatment. She will be having more fluid drained again soon. Hopefully we will find out then that the treatment worked and if there was any permanent damage. We will update this bio more then.

Sammie is up to date on vaccinations, flea treated, wormed, lymes negative, and microchipped. She will be spayed after she has had time to get well from the heartworm treatment. She is housebroken, but because of her medications she has to urinate very frequently. She loves toys, being nosey, cuddling, and people. She tends to be an alpha and sometimes bullies other dogs. This could cause a fight depending on the other dogs attitude/demeanor (use your judgment and knowledge of your dog). Sammie only gets along with male dogs. She does not get along with female dogs or cats. No small children. Sammie is a spitfire and still has a lot of spunk left in her. Life has not treated her well, but now that she’s getting healthy, she’s ready to find a family and kick life’s butt. Let’s help her do that. If you think you can do that please complete an application.

Meet the Pet

Potential adopter(s) will meet the dog. At this time there will also be a meet and greet between any other pets included in the household.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process consists of an initial application for the animal of interest, followed by reference checks (both personal and with a veterinarian), a home visit, and finally if approved an adoption contract. All animals are required to be inside companion pets and the owner must maintain veterinary care throughout the life of the animal.

Adoption fees are $150 for dogs, unless it is fostered through us for another rescue and $75 for cats.

All animals are up to date with vaccinations and spayed/neutered before adoption.

Go meet their pets

Arrangements can be made to visit with any of our pets, but because we are foster based and do not have one facility, appointments must be made to do so. To visit with a pet, please contact us at 814-421-7078 by phone or text.

More about this rescue

We are a small foster based rescue, not a shelter, comprised of multiple individuals that open their homes to stray, sick, and forgotten animals in need. We began the rescue in the Ligonier Area to focus on issues of stray, abandoned, and neglected animals. We often took in animals for the local police departments instead of having them sent to animal control. We have since expanded and try to cooperate with the public, other rescues, and other animal groups to assist any animal in need. Our primary focus area for intake though is still the Ligonier Valley. Adoptions can be made to any area as long as the adoption process is completed.
