Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Skye is a sweet, loving Australian Shepherd mix who is ready for her forever home. She is 8 months old, weighs 40 pounds, and has a beautiful, soft golden colored coat with beautiful black facial markings.
Skye is housebroken, working on crate training, and will sit nicely for a biscuit. She is a strong, young girl with lots of herding breed energy and potential. Sky is likely a good sports dog candidate (Frisbee, Dock Diving, agility, etc.) once she obtains basic training and commands.
Skye loves to be next to her people and looks to them for direction. She loves to run and play with other dogs and chase balls. She is eager to learn, once focused, and is also very treat motivated. She will need an adopter that has time, energy, patience and some experience to work with her on a regular basis. She needs training for leash walking, redirection from mouthing and jumping up, and extra crate training. A basic obedience course can always be helpful as well.
The ideal family for Skye is one that is fun, active, energetic and likes hiking, biking, running, or dog sports. Sky needs a family that likes to spend time playing and exercising a high energy young dog. Her adopters should have some experience with herding breeds and some experience with training a herding breed and/or be willing to work with a trainer or join training classes. Sky has lots of potential, but has a lot to learn on her way to maturity and stability.
A fenced yard is recommended for her to be able to run. Skye would also do well with another playful dog her size with a similar high energy level. She has been around small children but is still very mouthy and jumps up some, so any children in the home should be over the age of 12 and well supervised. She has also got along with cats.
Skye is being fostered in SC near the Charlotte, NC area. If Skye seems like a good fit for your family, please fill out our application:
