My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bowser was found by one of our local veterinarians at a rock quarry near her home.  Bowser had no identification tags and there was no response to her post of his picture on social media. She wondered if this good boy was lost or had been dumped.  She took him home until 11/1/21 when she transported him to her clinic for surgery to neuter him (scrotal tacking).  She asked if ARF might help her place him because, though he is a good dog and she liked him, he chased her cats and kept them jumping. Bowser is very friendly with both adults and children.  He likes other dogs and meets them wagging his tail.  He doesn't chew his blankets or toys at boarding, but he barks there (that long, deep coonhound howl). He didn't bark much while he was at the vet's house and he doesn't bark a lot when he gets to be outside. Everyone who works at the clinic loves Bowser and likes to take him outside and spend time with him. He needs more exercise than he has been getting, which makes him pull on the leash when he is walked! He is a very pretty dog, 61 pounds, between 5-6 years old. Bowser's 4DX for tick-borne illnesses was negative and he has been treated with drontal for hook and whip worms.  He has been given his rabies vaccine as well as DHPP (second given on 11/30/21), lepto, and bordatella protection.  Bowser is sweet, friendly, and would love to be a part of a family and have his own big fenced yard.  He loves to lie in the sun!  The more he interacts with people, the calmer he is becoming. It is likely that he was never allowed inside, and he may have been chained outside to a dog house (or even an old barrel, common in WV). Bowser has a lot of love and companionship to give and would be much happier out of boarding and in a home with a family of his own for Christmas! Give him a little time to adjust to being allowed inside with the family, for his good nature will be well worth it. Love his big, floppy ears and his friendly personality!
