My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tootsie - Yorkie/Westie Mix - Female - 6Yrs - www.twyla.org

Meet Tootsie: This feisty little Yorkie/Westie mix girl is about 6 yrs old and Mom to Marshmallow, Duffy, ChakaChaka, Teddy and Beluga. She is very sweet and affectionate, loves to follow you around the house, and LOVES to be held and sit in your Lap. She closely follows her people around the house  - she likes to sit in the nearest dog bed to where her folk are working/sitting if she can't sit on their lap. She walks pretty well on leash - she does like to sniff and mark her path on walks - she rides well in the car and goes potty outside when you a let her out often. In her foster home house with multiple dogs her very subtle notification is easily missed, but she will go outside whenever prompted and use pee-pads if available.
She currently lives with other dogs (all large dogs) and does well with proper management. She is quite reactive when meeting dogs while on walk, and while we call it sass, it would be called dog-reactivity in a larger dog, so she is looking for a home that will not only tolerate normal Yorkie behavior like barking and sassiness, but also be able to reign it in a bit. She contains her sass better around bigger dogs that quickly give her hints that they won't tolerate that behavior, but she will continue fussing at smaller dogs if she thinks she can possibly boss them around.

Tootsie is looking for a calm to moderately active home with some dog training experience, preferably without another dog, or a larger dog that will ignore her sass, but with lots of human attention and affection. She is easily corrected when caught with inappropriate behavior like jumping on furniture without being invited, except around smaller dogs, then she is pretty stubborn. If you are looking for a Lapdog to watch TV with - she's your girl. Slow walk to the mailbox? Yes, please. Extensive running around and lots of dogs? Not her thing.

Her foster family has noted that Tootsie is pretty reactive (=barky) when meeting other dogs while out walking, so living in an apartment type setup where she would meet other dogs every time she goes outside would become stressful (loud) for both dog and handler quickly, so a privately fenced yard for her outside time with occasional leash walks is preferred.

***Please note: All dogs are fostered in private homes of volunteers, so to meet a dog please fill out an Adoption Application on our website (http://www.twyla.org/adopt/our-adoption-process) so we may setup a private meetup with the dog or coordinate for an Introduction at the next general Adoption Meet and Greet (as listed on our website: (http://www.twyla.org/upcoming-events), as not all dogs attend all Meet and Greets***
