Ruger has owned the heart of his dog mom Sophia for the last two years. They met at the Agoura Shelter and have been together ever since, but life happens and his dog mom loves him enough to know that her new circumstances would not make for a happy life for her best buddy. We evaluated Ruger at SDF for training, but he was not cut out for a working life, so he is now searching for his next adventure.
Ruger is friendly, affectionate and outgoing with people, loves to play (he will fetch anything, including just a string!) and is wicked smart. He would make a wonderful outdoor adventure or sporting partner.
Ruger Likes A Booty Scratch
These are a few things that Sophia has to say about him:
'He is incredibly sharp, a touch witty, and one of the most continually loving animals I’ve ever had. He’s happy to spend hours in the car, days in a row, on any trip you can think of. He adores the winter months and enjoys never-ending games of snowball. In the summer we go swimming in lakes and rivers. We’ve backpacked together (with him in my sleeping bag at night to keep me warm.) He's a good off leash dog, he makes sure to check in on the trail and won’t stray too far ahead. His recall is solid. At our cabin I leave him off leash, he never typically leaves the property, and spends most of his time sitting on the porch watching.
Ruger lived with two other dogs, whom he has a lot of fun with. He prefers to be introduced to new dogs slowly. I’ve always been considerate of his anxiety in meeting new animals, and when handled preciously, have not had problems. When running into dogs on the street or trail, I always cross to the other side when possible, or move off the trail and let others pass. He’s met horses before, mountain bikers and anything in between. We’ve encountered multiple rattlesnakes and he’s always stayed by my side, listening attentively.
Ruger has given me so much, he has been a shoulder to cry on, and the best adventure buddy I could’ve ever asked for. I know that whoever takes him home will feel just as lucky as I have.'
Ruger is 3.5 years old, weighs about 60 lbs (he's a little chubby at the moment) and is up to date on his vaccinations.
