Update 12/26/22:
Our little grinch Mad Max had a lot to be grumpy about this holiday season. He has just passed his 1 year anniversary with our rescue, which meant an annual vet visit, shots updated, bloodwork… he was displeased 😡
His owners had said he was about 4 years old, but he’s definitely more at the senior stage of his life according to his recheck this week, at least 7-8 years old. Since they couldn’t seem to keep him from constantly running loose and playing in traffic, it’s not surprising they couldn’t count either 🤦♀️ He is still an angry little mad man at times but has mellowed quite a bit- between his age and low-stress low-expectation lifestyle he’s been living, maybe he will actually be a nice dog by the time he’s a teenager. If you respect his space and let him be himself he’s actually pretty pleasant and easy to live with, has an understanding with his other weird bad boy dog friends, and appreciates a stable routine. Definitely no children and a calmer adult home, he’s looking for someone who understands him and will work to build a bond of mutual respect, maybe even love one day. Meet Mad Max!
He came to us with a bit of a reputation… a multiple time running-at-large offender whose owner finally decided to just not pick him back up from the shelter instead of just getting him neutered and being more careful to keep him at home 🤦♀️. He was a feisty guy at the shelter with a big personality, aloof with strangers, protective of his food, and not liking some handling. In other words a normal Lhasa type personality and Second Chance demon dog🤷♀️. Here he’s not as bad as expected, respectful of the dogs and has warmed up and been sweet and avoidant of confrontation for the most part, definitely no Ray or even Prancer. He seemed to actually be very accustomed and comfortable with a basket muzzle for grooming and vetting which is great… without the muzzle he tried tasting the clippers 😖 but as soon as the muzzle was on he immediately flopped down and calmly allowed us to shave him. Rated R for sure, no kids and a respectful adult home that knows when to give him space and give him attention on his terms. Another dog or a few dogs to live with seem to help balance him, and he so far seems to be pretty housebroken as well as wee wee pads if needed.
Mad Max is approximately 4 years old and we think a Lhasa and/or Shih Tzu mix, 15lbs full grown, and is neutered and updated on shots. Please email njwoof@cs.com to meet him

We request that adopters fill out a pre-adoption application either in person at our adoption day or through our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com. This helps us make sure the animal's personality is a good match for your household. Adoption fees vary according to the dog's age, breed, adoptability, and how much we have had to spend in vet bill on them. Adopters sign a contract at the time of adoption, and the animal must come back to us if they do not work out in the home.
