My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Starlight, one of the gentlest, sweetest and genuine dogs you will ever meet. Approximately 3 years old, this soulful girl renamed Starlight (Star for short), is a 40-lb female velvety black collie/lab mix who is initially shy and timid upon first meeting, but is eager to show what an amazing companion she can be for that just right person or family. Rescued from an extreme dog hoarding situation a year ago, Starlight had been very neglected, tethered since a puppy and had limited social interaction. However, through patient, loving socialization and training with her foster mom and her doggy pack, Starlight has blossomed into a tender, demure girl who desperately wants to give and receive love.

Extremely docile, submissive and friendly with her other foster doggy siblings, she loves the company of other dogs and is always seeking their approval and camaraderie; she has learned how to be a dog from her foster pals, and learns quickly through acute observation and instinct. She would be great in a home with other dogs, pets (including cats!) and kids, but would also be a great fit for someone who’s recently lost a beloved pet, and would be the single dog in the household, ready to soak up all the affection available. Starlight does take time to feel comfortable and reveal her personality around new humans big or small, so loving patience and a tender voice will go far with her. She also enjoys being outside, happy to sun herself or chew on a bone, or simply watch the clouds float by. During her time with her foster family, she’s learned to use a doggy door, is housebroken, and has warmed up to going on walks on a leash. A gentle jewel with her dark, seeking eyes and endearing disposition, Starlight embodies her name and shines from within, ready to glow and grow into your heart and stay there, forever. If you think Starlight might be the one for you, please submit an inquiry or application to learn more about her!

*All of The Right to Live dogs are fostered locally in San Antonio Texas and will be transported to other states to their new families upon adoption. We believe fostering dogs and not having them decompress in a kennelled environment is more beneficial for the dogs and builds their trust and companionship in a family situation. Adoption fee includes transportation costs, previous/current medical treatment (spay/neuter, etc.) and a health certificate for cross-state travel*
