Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Max!
About Max: 6 year Neutered Boxer/Bulldog Mix
House trained: Yes
Temperament: Friendly (shy with strangers)
Good with cats: Yes
Good with dogs: No
Good with kids: Good w/ kids 12+
Max was originally adopted from HFP in 2017; sadly his owner has passed away from Cancer and Max has been with his daughter but needs a new forever home.
Max originally came to HFP with a heartbreaking story: adopted from the Yolo County Shelter as just a puppy, he was kept in the backyard for 2 straight years w/ little to no shelter — extreme winter cold and extreme summer heat + enduring loneliness was Max’s former life. He was so worn down from the elements he had no coat and his skin was a red itchy untreated mess of pain. Luckily, a neighbor convinced the man to surrender Max to HFP and he got lots of love, care and TLC with his fosters.
Max is a total sweetheart despite all he has been through. He was not properly socialized with dogs for the first two years of life so can be reactive/aggressive towards dogs but has ability to be dog-neutral with training. He is good w/ cats and kids 12+.
Our hearts are breaking for Max who has been through so much; when he finally found the person he loved and who loved him back, he was taken too soon and now Max needs a home again.
More about Max: Max loves people and his very playful, but his play can be boisterous and therefore a home with small children would not be recommended. He also has sensitive skin and therefore, would need to be kept mostly indoors. He is very content to be wherever people are! He can be nervous when visitors come over but recovers quickly with proper intros and treats.
How does the dog react to being left alone?: Okay. Max does not chew or destroy items. He does however like to climb on the sofa when we are not looking! :)
Please list any particular fears your dog has.: Loud noises
What is the dog's favorite : chew toys // Be where the people are
Max likes to sleep in, go potty in the backyard, eat breakfast and drink water and then sleep some more!
Max is happy to see you when you come home from work and does a good job alerting you when someone is at the door. Max likes to roughhouse and play! He also likes chew toys.
An ideal home for Max would consist with a single person or couple with no small children or dogs. Max is great with cats! Housetrained, and could be super content in a home w/ a working schedule + big yard.
MAX IS AVAILABLE AS FOSTER TO ADOPT (Like a trial of sorts) or for direct adoption. He is being fostered near Chico Ca — $150 adoption donation includes — up to date on vaccinations, neutered, heartworm tested, microchip.
