Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Scarlet When I was first surrendered to HSHC, I was an 8-month-old Calico kitten. My owner was moving but not taking me along. After only a week, I got adopted, and life was good! I lived with my new owner for two years before allergies in the family resulted in me returning to the HSHC. Because I was so distraught at being in the shelter, I went to live with a foster mom. I am now 3-years-old and so grateful for my time in a home. My first reaction to new things and people is to be fearful and hiss. My foster mom said it took me about a week to get comfortable enough to stop hiding and hissing. By mid-April, I would rub against her, jump into her lap, settle down, and purr. As long as I feel I know a person, I am an affectionate little girl. Based on how safe I feel, I have a cuddly side to my personality. However, to ensure I remain comfortable in a home, all family members need to be 18 or older. I used my litterbox very well in my foster home. When the interviewer lady visited me, my first reaction was to hiss. However, the more time spent with me results in a sweet, loveable kitty. If you have the time, I have the desire to move in with you! 5-30-24

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.
This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
