My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing Effie!

The charming 5-year-old Pitbull mix with a heart as gentle as her demeanor! Weighing in at a lovely 56 pounds, Effie is the perfect blend of sweetness and grace.
Effie may be shy when first meeting new people, but her loving nature shines through once she feels comfortable. Her gentle demeanor makes her an ideal companion for those seeking a loyal and affectionate furry friend.

Effie shows potential to live with another dog in her forever home, provided it`s a good fit. While she may take some time to warm up to new canine friends, with patience and understanding, Effie is sure to form lasting bonds with her furry companions.
Effie can be placed with children aged 10 to 13, creating a nurturing environment where she can share her love and warmth with her human siblings.

Ready to welcome the charm of Effie into your life? Call 330-487-0333 ext 803 to schedule an appointment and let the gentle presence of Effie fill your home with love. Your forever friend is just a call away!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All of our adoptable animals are up-to-date on all age appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered, de-wormed, de-flea and microchipped before adoptions are finalized. All dogs over six months of age receive a temperament assessment by our Certified Professional Dog Trainer to ensure appropriate placement. Also, many animals in our care receive basic obedience training to improve manners and increase adoptability.

We are currently doing adoptions by appointment only. Please contact us by phone at (234) 212-9843 or email at adoptions@summithumane.org, and an adoption counselor will return your message. They will review our adoption process, answer any questions, and tell you more about the animals currently available for adoption at our shelter and in our foster program. If we have a match for you and your family, an appointment will be scheduled to meet the animal.

Additional questions can be directed to our adoption team at (234) 212-9843.

More about this shelter

Since 1968, the Humane Society of Summit County (HSSC) has been the trusted caretaker and advocate for Summit County’s victims of animal abuse, neglect, and abandonment and stray animals suffering from illness and injury. We employ two full-time Humane Officers who respond to emergency calls, investigate animal cruelty, and, as warranted, prosecute offenders. We protect and care for our community’s abused, discarded, and forgotten animals. We strive every day to rehabilitate our rescued animals, find them great homes, and provide them with bright futures.
