My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**If you are interested in Mae, please fill out an adoption application on our website: www.roversretreat.org**

Meet Mae, a lovely little lady who came to us as a stray from the Bakersfield shelter. We think Mae is about 3 years old, but she has an old soul. Mae is a calm, sweet, and gentle girl. Her most favorite thing in the world is cuddling. She has so far not shown any interest in playing, but she gets very excited to show you where the bed is and will happily lead you there for some cuddle time. She is 13 pounds of love with soft hair that doesn’t seem to shed much.

Mae is a low-energy girl. Her ideal life is a home with a person, or people, who can be with her most of the time and also prioritize the “hygge lifestyle.” Her interests include cozy blankets, soft beds, being at your side while you read a book, and binge watching tv. If you are looking for a partner to watch Netflix and never complain about your choices, Mae is your girl.

Mae is currently being fostered with her pup, Jemison, as well as big dogs, a cat, and a toddler. Mae is friendly to all the creatures, but really would rather be with people. It would be wonderful for Mae and Jemison to be adopted together, but it’s not a requirement. If Mae is not adopted with her little boy, she will need a person to keep her company. She would be fine as an only dog so long as her people are with her. She would also do well with another dog, as long as their energy is similar.

Mae is crate trained, but her foster family never puts her in there anymore because she has not had a single accident in the house. She is safe to leave unattended when you go out and has not chewed a single thing. She walks well on a leash, staying by your ankle and constantly looking up at you to see what comes next. When she sees another dog or hears them barking she ignores them, or she sits quietly at your side until it’s time to move on. She is very quiet and will come close to you and tremble when she needs something. If she cannot get close to you, Mae will whine softly to let you know she needs your help. She takes food and treats from your fingertips slowly and carefully. Mae is a very special girl who wants nothing more than peace, comfort, and love. If Mae sounds like your dream girl, please submit an application on our website: www.roversretreat.org
