My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

FOSTERED IN: Elgin, IL 60124
ESTIMATED DOB: 2013
WEIGHT: 70 lbs
KIDS: 14+
DOGS: Yes
CATS: Unknown

HISTORY:
Beau was found as a stray in rural NE Louisiana. When he was found, he had ear infections, was underweight, heartworm positive, and had an old eye injury leaving him blind in one eye. Beau has been successfully treated and is heartworm free!

ABOUT:
Beau’s foster home describes him as inquisitive, goofy, loving, and patient. Beau is perfectly house trained, and is a pretty quiet guy - no over the top hound barking for this guy. Beau is comfortable being crated, but typically has free roam at his foster home.

Beau loves attention and has become quite the snuggler and will never pass up an opportunity to snuggle with someone in bed. He loves all strangers and thinks everyone he meets should stop to give him a few scratches. The vet said he is one of their best patients as he is very sweet and easy to handle. Beau would make an excellent buddy and companion for someone.

Beau is a medium energy level, but he might enjoy going for casual, meandering walks in quiet areas. He also enjoys some time to play with the other dogs in the yard, but mostly he prefers to nap and snuggle. Beau has done wonderfully with the other dogs in his foster home who have ranged from medium to large in size. He has done great with numerous foster dogs coming in and out, but his foster is always sure to give him proper introductions.

Beau is very food motivated which makes any training or behavior modification super easy. He takes all his treats in extra-gentle-super-slo-mo so no one has to worry about nibbled fingers. Despite being very food motivated, Beau does not bother people when they are eating. He might watch hopefully from a distance, because it never hurts to hope.

Suburban/Rural:
Beau was previously adopted by a family who lived in the city. They had to reluctantly surrender him shortly after adopting when it was obvious he could not tolerate the commotion of city life. Beau will do best in a suburban or rural setting.

Kids:
Like most of us, Beau prefers to eat food and chews without being disturbed, so he should only be adopted to homes with children 14+. He does excellent with everyone including strangers, so visiting children will not be a problem as long as food and chews are controlled.

Fence/Yard:
A fenced yard will be required for Beau. Additionally, he can be easily distracted and hyper fixated on things, so he will do best with a fence that cannot be seen through. Fences that are see-through could be considered in more rural/less populated areas if we don’t feel that fixation will be a concern. Beau has used objects to climb a fence in the past so he can’t ever be left outside unattended.

Anxiety:
Beau has experienced some mild separation anxiety so he takes Trazodone, which costs about $30 per month. This medicine gives him the opportunity to not need to be crated when his foster family is gone. An alternative would be to crate him when no one is home.

Allergies:
Beau experiences seasonal allergies so he receives Cytopoint injections every 6-8 weeks in the non-freezing months which cost about $150.

Beau is a very easy going guy who makes few demands during his daily life. If you think this loving, calm boy will be a good fit for your family you can find our adoption application on our website: www.luluslockerrescue.org
