8-21-2022: Josh has waited several months to find his new forever home. He is doing great in his current foster home playing with the other dogs and loving on the young kids. He's a special dog and we hope to find him a new forever home soon.
On 11-2, a vet from the Urbana, IL area contacted me about a young Lemon Pointer in need that was at the local animal control and they were full and he needed to move. I contacted her immediately and said we will pull him. Joshua came to IBR HQ for a much needed shampoo and photos. He's stunningly beautiful and super friendly but a little too amorous and is a humping machine. For fun I found some feathers and he went from humper-boy to a pointing machine. I have no doubt Joshua is from a big field bred Pointer puppy mill and was probably sold as a started dog as he seems to know whoa. He's got tattoos in both ears for ID purposes and was probably sold to a foot hunter who had NO IDEA- how big these dogs can run. These Miller's line of Pointers have been bred to run big and independent from a horse or ATV-- hundreds of yards away.
With that in mind- knowing that I have quite a valuable little Pointer puppy in the program, I am not going to let him go to a hunter that might blast him with an electronic collar if he runs too big and break his spirit. Been there done than- never again. I feel very protective over this puppy and what he is all about having had a Pointer so much like him enter my life in 1998 from the same breeding lines that ran so big he gave me grey hairs. I am looking for a pet home first that has a HUGE fenced in back yard for him to run some of that Pointer energy and he needs a playful buddy that won't let him get away with the humping behavior. As there is so much tick borne disease in Pointers, he is being treated proactively now and we will do blood work soon. In a month we will get his neuter done. He does well on runs with his foster mom so he might be a good running partner.
