Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Spitz came into foster during the Olympics so he was named after an Olympian, swimmer Mark Spitz. So he's been with us for a while. Spitz is such a looker!! He's got smoldering blue eyes, a heart shaped nose and the cutest profile on a dog you've ever sen.
When he came into rescue at 2 months old he was rescued from a commercial breeder. He is so lucky that he will never have to live a life being kept in a cage and used for breeding. We are so happy to have saved him. He was only 10 lbs so he was 5-8 lbs underweight and had a bladder infection when he arrived. He’s done remarkably well getting healthy and putting on over 30 lbs. He had a tough start and we think he was taken from his mom a bit premature as he has some anxiety.
Spitz’ perfect forever home will have a companion dog for him and an experienced owner. He does not do well in a crate due to his anxiety. In his foster home he has shared a crate with another dog and while he still anxious he was able to eventually calm down. Fast forward to current day, Spitz will sit by the back door or ring the bell when he has to go out. He is not having any accidents in the house. He is not crated and sleeps with his foster mom. If you need a weighted blanket, he is the perfect solution as he loves to snuggle up next to you whether on the couch or in bed.
Spitz does not chew anything except his toys and bones, both of which he loves A LOT! He is definitely food motivated and we are happy to say he has outgrown needing a slow feeder at meal time as he knows he doesn't have to fight for his food any longer and shares food with the other dogs in the house. His treats and bones, sometimes he shares and sometimes he doesn't but he is always up for a game of tug of war with a dog or human.
Spitz will be your shadow and wants to be anywhere his human is. He gets very attached and in return will give you SO MUCH LOVE. He’ll curl up on the couch with his head on your leg and be content as can be. He also loves to snuggle next to the other dogs (and cats) in his foster home. He does still like to chase the cats on occasion and is always looking for a bird or bunny to chase after outside. But all in all he is just a big baby who loves to play. He likes removing the from the toy basket and loves when you play with him. He gets very excited when he has a toy and wants to show you how proud of himself he is with the adorable sounds he makes and wiggly back end.
Spitz will sit on command or when he wants something. He enjoys safe rawhides, cow ears, bully sticks and other types of chews. He does get anxious when riding in a car and will drool but besides that, he is the perfect dog. We've had a little interest but just haven't found the right fit. Could you and your family be that for him? It is really important that he have a dog companion, one that he can enjoy playing with. Don't have any dogs? Flick and Spitz would be a great addition together (no they are not a bonded pair, they are just in a foster home together and get along great).
Spitz loves everyone he meets. If children are part of his forever family we would prefer that they are older. Spitz loves his people but he doesn’t know his own strength and we wouldn’t want anyone getting hurt from his excitement. His home should have a fenced in yard for him to be able to run around to exert his puppy energy. While not having a fence is not a deal breaker, we are firm on a companion dog for him. What are you waiting for? He is R-E-A-D-Y for you!
