My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello my name is Slava! My name may seem unusual, that is because I am from Ukraine! How did I get here? That is a good question!

My history is mostly unknown, but for the last 4 years of my life I was at a poor shelter with absolutely no hope of adoption. I was one of the favorites of the shelter owner and she would let me stay with her sometimes. I am very gentle and kind. I love humans a lot, I am almost like a dog, because when I like you, I will follow you around the house and I like to cuddle.

You may have heard that the CDC banned dogs from Ukraine and 112 other countries. Before this, my organization used to bring hopeless street dogs to the US to find homes. It is very sad for the dogs, but now the organization is giving hope to street cats, because the import regulations for us has not changed.

I arrived in San Francisco in October, but now that holiday travel is almost back to normal, my rescue said adoptions are very slow during holiday time in America. On my journey here, a flight volunteer carried me and another cat for the long journey. I was very well-behaved and quiet the whole time. Now I am staying at a foster home in Pacifica with 2 dogs. I am doing ok with them, but they are not too used to cats. I would do ok in a home with small dogs or a dog familiar with cats. If you give me a chance at a forever home I am sure I will warm up and be your best friend very quickly! I have never been around children, but I am very friendly, so I am sure I would be fine with them as long as they are nice to me.

One thing about me is, that since I was in a poor shelter for several years, I am a carrier of Calcivirus. I do not have the active disease though. For this reason, it is ideal for me to be the only cat in the house. It would also probably be fine for me to be with a fully vaccinated and healthy adult cat. I was vaccinated for the first time when my organization was preparing me for the journey and recently received my booster. My veterinarian said that after my booster, my body should get rid of the virus within 6 months. But other than that I am healthy. I was tested for FIV and Feline Leukemia and luckily I was negative for those. I also had a full blood biochemistry, ultrasound of all of my organs and a teeth cleaning before I left. I was also vaccinated against Rabies.

If you are interested in adopting a new fluffy friend who will be forever grateful, please contact my organization. Thank you! Meow!
